Premiere Pro Speech To Text Auto Transcription Is Blowing My Mind

In this video I give my first impressions of the new Speech To Text Automatic Transcription feature in Adobe Premiere Pro. This allows you to auto generate transcriptions of your sequences using Adobe Sensei, keeping your whole captions/subtitles workflow within the premiere pro software. What a game changer!

This is amazing. I work for an organization that helps people with disabilities get jobs. We have been making training videos for job counselors. In this field, we can't play around when it comes to accessibility. This is going to be monumental for us. Your videos have saved my bacon on a number of occasions. This is utterly amazing and I thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us.

Would anyone happen to know if there's any way to get in touch with Adobe to become a beta tester for this list sooner? I keep getting a message saying they would let me know in the next few months if I am accepted. Thanks in advance. Apologies if this isn't the place to ask. :)

You can export the SRT file as a separate file when you export the video it’s in the captions section of the export media dialogue box. It then exports the SRT file alongside your exported video.

I wonder how this opens up the possibilities of translated subtitles? Take the transcript and put it in Google Translate, then somehow assign the timestamps correctly to create a new srt file. How easily could this be done? I need to play with this. Thanks for the great video 👍

Looks impressive. I'd love to play around with the feature. Particularly seeing if Adobe or some AI (sensei) specialist could use it to categorize clips to bins based on the dialogue content. A relevant example: taking a feature film, say "Being John Malkovich," and isolating every instance of Cusack's character saying "Maxine" and providing heads&tails 20secs of each segment to a collection. Then the editor could montage such footage easily -- extraction theory for quick cutdowns. That's one potential where I could see such a feature's power used for. No longer requiring team of Assistant Editors collecting shots from script. Certainly will beat CS5's attempt at textual rendition

Oh wow Depending on it's flexibilty and ease to change font and position after creating text objects from the transcript ( and even if that is not possible at all ) this has the potential to dramatically speed up my workflow, and even help with recognising what some people sometimes say that i can't tell! Applied for the early access, really looking forward to testing it

Really like the feature, and doing so on the final output is great. However, I think iI would very useful to be able to transcribe the clips imported (not in the final timeline), edit based on the transcribed text and then put those identified onto a timeline. This would help those searching for phrases in their imported clips before assembly. Like transcriptive does. I realise that each clip could be added to the timeline, apply the text to the speech process, save the result and then replace the clip on the time and repeat. A way of doing this on each clip without adding/removing it to the timeline would greatly expand the usefulness of the speech to text faculty.

Putting the uncritical excitement aside, in practice with this feature I find that sync drifts in captions the longer the sequence, like an hours-long interview. And it's also super hard to adjust large swaths of caption text. Those of us here doing short-form probably don't experience this, but long-form editing reveals this as another promising but still not fully prime time Adobe component. Can't speak for English, but French is about 60-70% accurate at best, even in clean recordings. Anyone else working in larger scale projects experience these issues?
