    Hi Im a pre dental student and was thinking about going to Berkeley, but am wary to do so because of grade deflation and harsh curves? In your experiences did these factors play a large role in affecting your gpa? Im leaning towards going to Davis instead, seems less cutthroat and easier to maintain straight A’s

    Hi! This video was SOOO helpful! tysm! A quick question, do you recommend splitting the subjects (so not taking them in the same year)? I saw you took Bio 1B in the spring of freshman year and BIo 1A in the spring of sophomore year. Do you think it's better to take Bio 1A/1B back to back or does the material not overlap so you won't have to restudy everything? Also a in depth video on why berkeley is so difficult/specific study tips you have found super useful would be so great!

    So glad to hear!! The two classes have no overlap in material at all. Bio 1B: ecology, evolution, plants. Bio1A: biochem, genetics, animal development/anatomy. Whether you take them in the same year or not won't matter :) I would plan it around what other classes you're taking that semester.

    @@gingyrocka6039 hi!! I didn’t take BioE 10 so I’m not sure how rigorous it is, but math + chem (with lab) was definitely doable! Are you comfortable with both subjects? Chem was a breeze because it was like AP chem, math was also totally fine but I had to do practice problems and there’s more busy work! Lmk if I can help with anything else! Hey Samer! Thanks so much for the comment and congratulations on your UC Berkeley acceptance! Brush up on all AP Calc fundamentals (derivatives and multivariable derivatives (this is not multivar calc), integrals, cos/sin/tan and their inverses/derivatives/integrals, graphs of derivatives/integrals, functions/inverse fn's, limits + combinatorics, matrices and statistics! Hope that helps ~ will be uploading soon :)

    If you have Stankova for math 10A she requires lots of dedication. Also in general, coming from a math major at Berkeley, if you have time, don't just have a mechanical understanding of problems. Really understand the proofs behind the material and how it works. I find that's really important for all math at Cal!

    Hi Mila! Thanks for the question! Regarding the premed requirement, I do not believe Data 8 satisfies stats, but you may be able to call the med school you're interested in. I'd also advise talking to your major counselors because you might be able to work something out if its a class that you need! Please fact check me though :)

    I'd say AP Bio generally since it's a broader scope and will help with general "biology 1A", Anatomy and Physio will help more specifically if you decide on a major that requires those :) Goodluck!

    I am an incoming freshman to Cal and thanks for the great video :) I have one question about chem 1A and 1AL, is it better to take both classes in the same semester? Is it okay if I take 1A in the fall and 1AL in the spring? There are other classes I want to take just to balance out the workload from my classes in my fall semester (also so that I can explore other subjects), but I am not sure whether taking 1A and 1AL separately is a good idea

  • @ashyang1055

    @ashyang1055

    Congrats!! This is my advice (not all may agree with me).... I would suggest you take chem 1AL with 1A because it’s SOOO easy (1AL is only 1 unit!). I was a TA for 1AL and can assure you that you should NOT consider it a full class. Take both simultaneously, it’ll also be easier because you’re learning the material and then applying it. You may forget the details if you take them in different semesters. Consider the lecture and lab as one class :) lmk if I can help with anything else

    @@ashyang1055 Thank you for the advice! Ya I was pretty concerned about the difficulty of the lab component 😅 If 1AL could be considered as not a full class, then would you suggest to take a fifth course for the fall semester? For clarification, currently, I have 4 classes down including chem 1AL (13 units total), and I am not sure if I should take another 3-4 unit class because it feels like it would be too many units and too high of a workload.

    @@animefan-sv8ot Glad I could help! Since it's your first semester, I wouldn't stress about packing on the classes. I'd much rather dealing with a slightly easier coursework (13 units, 4 classes is solid!), than trying to load yourself with too many classes and deal with burnout. Plus, you'll graduate on time, don't stress too much about needing to take so many units. Nothing wrong with taking 13 units, remember, there's an adjustment period!!
