The other adult female fox squirrel that visits our garden regularly is Mrs. Munchie. She was the squirrel that made us decide to start putting out food for squirrels. She had been getting into the bird feeder I had put out last year, so we made a platform on the palm tree and put a bowl of food there for her. She lives closer to us than Mary does, and I believe several yearling squirrels that we see daily were her babies from last summer.
Mrs. Munchie didn't have a winter litter, or lost them very early in the season, but I believe she is pregnant now. She has been spending a couple hours every morning in the garden eating the nuts we put out and collecting the nuts-in-shell I scatter around for them to find. She started doing this after disappearing for a couple weeks, so I think she had gone into heat and mated during that time. It will be fun if she brings this litter of babies to the garden later this summer!
