Nurse here: I think the biggest thing new moms struggle with is breastfeeding. I’m not sure if you’re planning to breastfeed, but if you are, I don’t think you can start preparing early enough! After giving birth, you’re exhausted and there’s sooo much going on, but as the mom your biggest job is getting that baby fed. Everyone else can hold the baby, change diapers, etc. but you have the milk. Sometimes the baby doesn’t latch or it’s more difficult/painful than you think and this is where I see moms get really discouraged and critical of themselves. If you can start building a relationship with a lactation specialist I think that’s great, that way if there is an issue with baby boy you already know each other and she’s not meeting you for the first time when you’re feeling tired/stressed. Hope this helps, love watching your journey, you’re doing a great job mama! 💙

@@rebekah3483 glad to hear it Rebekah! They really should start the conversation about it in the OB offices and have more education and resources available before birth. It’s so hard to teach in the postpartum wing when you’ve got a hungry crying baby. Sometimes the moms give up and just go to the bottle because they are tired and it definitely can make mom feel defeated.

As a postpartum nurse and certified lactation counselor, I 100% think it should be a non-negotiable to take a breastfeeding class. And the book called “breastfeeding doesn’t need to suck” by Kendall Tackett IBCLC and psychologist is a wonderful book about what to expect and resources for help with struggles. I give it to all my first time mom friends. Not enough people are aware of what breastfeeding in the first few days usually looks like (hand expression hand expression hand expression!) On a side note, Ive been loving watching your journey. I’m currently a trimester behind you so I love keeping up with you

Tums for the heartburn. Slow down, and all you can do is talk to the doctor about the dry skin. The tums are also good for calsum for you and the baby.

When I was pregnant with my oldest I could not drink plain water without getting terrible heartburn. My doctor recommended adding lemon and it really helped.

Taking a class is great! Also make sure you are ready for after the baby is born with all things for YOU! The baby will everything they need but make sure you think of yourself as well. That’s my biggest take away when it comes to being prepared. Take naps and rest! Soak in alone time and time with sawyer.

I had dry hands/skin and appetite decreases in my second trimester too! I’m 35 weeks 5 days now with baby #2, and I am so impressed that you are doing so well with accepting your weird/changing symptoms with each new season. In my first pregnancy, I struggled a lot with that, and you will benefit so much in the long run in postpartum if you keep rolling with the changes with a level head like you already are! Proud of you!

My best advice is to definitely take the classes to prepare for labor and delivery! But of course when it comes time, definitely listen to your body! You know your body better than anyone else! I feel like the preparation for postpartum often gets overlooked. Definitely take some time to think about what YOU will need too, not just baby. A book I recommend to prepare for postpartum is "To Have and to Hold" by Molly Millwood🙌🙌wish I would've read it while pregnant and not have waited until after birth

It is hard not to feel overwhelmed and also to remember to do all of the things we want to do. For me I have found I keep a list when something pops in my head that I think would be good to buy or have on hand I write it down. This can be helpful so when you are out and about you might see it or your hubby might then you will have that accomplished. I do try and not overdo the list as this could be overwhelming. It is a balance act. I also keep a list started which could be your packing list for the hospital. You do not need to pack then you have the list ready when the time comes to pack. Keep it fun not intense.

I’m 27 weeks now! We had to sign up for the baby classes our hospital offers pretty early because they fill up quickly. We are doing Childbirth, Newborn Care, Infant CPR, and Breastfeeding! Those classes we will do April through early May. I had my registry finalized about a month or two before my baby shower, which is early April! Just in case I needed to change anything or add/subtract. I threw everything I could possibly need on there so it’s my personal checklist to buy off of if we didn’t receive the item at the shower 😊

I highly recommend taking a breastfeeding class. I would find a class where Sawyer can attend with you. Husbands/partners were encouraged at the class we attended. I found that it helped him understand the process and especially when in the actual moment, if I was upset or feeling overwhelmed, he had the knowledge from the class to help ease my emotions. I wouldn’t leave any class to the last few weeks of pregnancy. I found Mums were not completing classes that ran over a few weeks because they left it too late and bub arrived before finishing!

See a chiropractor! I had a rotated pelvis and back issues before even getting pregnant and they got worse when I got pregnant. I started seeing a chiropractor at 14 weeks, every week until the week I gave birth. I had 0 back pain the rest of pregnancy and it helped me during labor!

Good think about heartburn your baby boy have a lot of hair. Do lay down after you eat for 15-20 minutes. Times work well if you have really bad heartburn but if you could stay away from the foods that you eat that you know cause it’s your heartburn that helps too. It’s so hard it’s so hard because you want to eat everything so just do a little and see how you go on and sign outside set milk slowly that does help. Can’t wait to meet baby boy.

*i started baby registry around 24 weeks and added to it until my baby shower at 32 weeks. personally, i would say breastfeeding is the hardest part post birth so def learn as much as you can if you’re planning on BF, don’t overwhelm yourself by reading a million books bc you and sawyer are the only two who will know how and what to do to raise your son to be the best version of himself he can be. parenting can be so controversial these days & there is like no one right way, so just find the things you’re interested in and know you’re going to or want to implement and research those topics. like no vaccines/ delayed vaccines and things like that. start talking your birth plan out with saywer and let each other know what your desires are to have met during labor and delivery if you have the opportunity- discuss things like circumcisions and do your research on stuff like that as well if that’s something you’re interested in. Just know that you and Sawyer are gonna be kick ass parents. also, i bought like a a pack of diapers of diff sizes and wipes a week until birth starting at 25 weeks both times just to have a wide variety. and starting the nursery sooner and getting it done and out-of-the-way, might help a lot with late term pregnancy exhaustion and anxiety you might feel over not having things “done in time”. can’t wait for yall to be parents !* 💕

I am so very sorry for the loss of your dad, I lost my dad to colon cancer stage 4 on 7/10/2022. I am talking to someone and I have been on and off. My therapist has helped me through the heartaches of being a parent of three and having two of your children that have Cystic Fibrosis. The girls are doing great my oldest is going to be 25, my middle daughter is going to be 23, and my baby girl just turned 20 and she is a hairstylist and has so many followers. She is amazing with hair color everything but I just wanted to touch you and let you know I know what the pain is and if you’d like to privately chat, that would be great if you feel like it but I know many people don’t believe in counseling or talking to therapist, but it does help.😘🤗💙😘🤗💕😘🤗💙❤️❤️❤️

So happy for the two of you. You’ll be wonderful parents. He looks absolutely adorable. Please breastfeed it is the most special time for bonding with your baby. I also would suggest once your milk supply is built up to pump and introduce a bottle with your milk for your husband to feed for his bonding. I breastfed each of my girls till after a year. My first refused the bottle because I waited too long to try. My second we introduced a bottle with breast milk very shortly after she was born and actually gave her one bo

I drank so much chocolate milk during both of my pregnancies. It was the only thing that really helped with the pregnancy heartburn I took a labor class at the hospital I delivered that was really nice. I learned a lot about phases of labor and when to come to the hospital and such. I also watched some videos on the what to expect app. I would take a breastfeeding class if you plan to breastfeed. It’s such a natural thing but man can it be hard lol.

Heart burn-avoid eating carbs without protein. The high blood sugar makes it worse. Papaya enzymes and small meals/amounts of drinks can help. Resource I found helpful even after having already had a baby and read all the books: Hypnobirthing, practical ways to make your birth better book and the birth hour podcast. Just listen to as many birth stories as possible to see all the different variations of birth. And as for timeline: I’d start on registry now and just slowly add to it. I used Babylist and it worked great. And don’t worry about the nursery too much. You probably won’t use it for a while at first.
