Tyra: "What nationality are you?" Girl: "I'm Middle Eastern" Me: *facepalm* Her NATIONALITY is Middle Eastern? The middle east is a part of the world not a nationality. One with very different cultures and languages and religions at that.

I love how Tyra brought recognition to the fact that there are different shades of African American women because this is true is every "race." (I used air quotes because we are techniquely all part of the human race.) But the reason I loved that is because people that I know and myself are commonly thought of to be a different "race" than we actually are.

Goes to show that nothing is impossible and to anyone who wants to know if we interact with each other the answer is yes! We exchange sweets and food from neighbors for special occasions and celebrate each others religous festivals despite having separate beliefs! That way I learn more about them and they about me! Respect goes both ways.

When Miram started to talk about how she used to lighten her hair and do stuff that would make people not recognise her true self it made me sad I started CRYING once she said that she wishes she could practice her religion in public but is afraid or can't because people will automatically say that she's a terrorist. I know how she feels as I am a young muslim woman myself. It breaks my heart knowing that she WANTS to practice her religion freely and in public but can't or is afraid!

Some of you are gonna have to appologise one day for some of your comments. Nothing wrong with not wanting to associate yourself with a certain group(freedom of association) but spewing hate is counter productive. If you don't like a group of people stay away from them, don't call them names.

I grew up in an all white neighborhood in Austria. When I told people I'm half Turkish their instant reaction was "Oh, you don't look like it!" like it was something bad. Or when people who didn't know me heard my last name, I could hear them whispering right away. As soon as they found out, they treated me differently. Like my father was some kind of illegal immigrant plumber. When he was a neurosurgeon and made three times the money their fathers made. It's just this world...

When Tyra said "It's happened to ALMOST every culture in this room", I think the 'almost' wasn't needed. I think it's safe to say it has happened to every culture. BUT I love what this episode did, showing how silly it is that we assume things of other people.

@Ilike2makecomments I'm glad someone agrees with me! I know that some times it's just easier to say someone is white. And I don't normally have a problem with being referred to as "white." BUT it does bother me when people say oh I identify with this group because they're colored too. Just because we're not purple doesn't mean we aren't people of color! Are we invisible? Do we not have pigment to our skin like everyone else? It's just ANOTHER color, not a lack of it.

@MsLenaKay that is so terrible, im really sorry to hear that and i hope you find the strength to overcome things like that in your life. im asian from an asian country where my race is the predominant one but there are plenty of other asians around, the culture of my country and the way people were raised, the issue of racism is like one percent of what i see/hear about america. there are many muslims in my country, they are the second biggest race and its a testament to what i mentioned above

I'm Greek, German and Italian and i look like i have a middle eastern complexion and people harassed me and called me a terrorist and an arab and ect. Its sad when people get made fun of for their ethnicity, but i think its even sadder when people get made fun of for an ethnicity their not even a part of.its hard for people like me who dont look white in a predominately white neighborhood and get made fun of for it.

Past several decades! There have been people of African decent living in the UK for the last 500 years, only you have to search hard in the history books to find this. Elizabeth 1st talks openly about not admitting anymore "Black-A-Moors into England back in the 16th century andthe 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot was a regiment of black drummers from Guadeloupe who started a tradition which lasted for almost a century back in 1759.

@liah14 hispanic/latino is a generalization of different nationalities which each one of them full of all shades of color and different ethnic origins and races. this is based only on the language wich is spanish, but we could take into the group polinesian, filipino, saharians or equiatorial guineans also who speak spanish too as latinos, then.
