Great video on how to use the Design Magic with real world application of creating something that saves time.
What and why were you doing the bit @40:48 ? Seemed important but i couldnt follow why it was necessary. Was it so you could make the base a single face? - think im missing something

I was selecting all of the edges and then manually beveling that bottom area. You do need to control x when selecting faces to try and minimize the number of faces before beveling.
Have you looked into Moi3D?

Haha. Yes, before Blender I used it all the time. In fact I actually wrote an application that folks used to change the interface of the older version of it. It's a great nurbs modeler, very simple to use and Michael has the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.
