Reverend David Maginley is spiritual advisor for the cancer program, palliative care and intensive care unit at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and award-winning author of Beyond Surviving : Cancer and Your Spiritual Journey.
David has degrees in philosophy and religious studies, but his real education came from surviving cancer four times. This led him to have a profound near-death experience and explore the nature of consciousness and the connection between body, soul and spirit. He knows what it's like to have cancer from both sides of the hospital bed and sees this life from both sides of the veil.
David is ordained by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada, a specialist in the Canadian Spiritual Care Association, a member of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology and the International Association for Near-Death Studies. David is also a passionate photographer, who uses the camera as a tool for self-psychology and leads workshops on creativity and spirituality. An advisor to provincial and federal cancer initiatives, David lectures across Canada on the meaning of suffering, the wisdom of grief, mindfulness, death and dying, compassion fatigue and integrative spirituality.
