Actually before Sunmi released the song she posted the meaning of noir. Noir in French means black but it also means a series of depicting mystery, violence and danger. In regards to people it means dangerously sexy, mysterious, dark, elusive and alluring. The meaning of the song and the MV is how people tend to do all these dangerous things to get likes and attention

The ending of the video has a simple meaning. It's like saying "oh look... my car is on fire, let's take a picture/selfie instead of seeking for help" pretty much how people nowadays instantly brings their cellphone out when something happens, whether it's dangerous or not, and they begin recording or taking pics instead of helping or calling the authorities.

I think the last part was supposed to represent how we are getting desensitized to real life violence and tragedy. Even off set she acted the same as on set.

Noir, I think, talks about the clichés in noir films and how said clichés lead to obvious scenes. Sunmi added her lovely uniquely creepy style and used the social media angle because it fit.

My theory; So in the beginning we see sunmi holding a container filled with red sweets shaped like hearts on instagram; throughout the music video, you would be able to see the sweets multiple times ( for example , the parts where she had #follow me and #공감 on the screen ) : this shows that as time goes by she gets more addicted to these red sweets ( Instagram likes ) and at some point they become dangerous like they’re drugs. When she’s picking up the red sweets from the container earlier in the music video, we can see her wearing a ‘rabbit ear hat’ ( she looked so cute in it uwu 🥺 ). Rabbit ear hats had become really popular in Korea ( literally every single person wore them ) to the point where people began wearing them just for attention ( these people were called attention seekers ). I think that sunmi brought up the topic of ‘attention seeking’ back because it fits very well with the whole social media fiasco. I think that this fits really well with social media because 40 % of the time people on instagram post pics and vids just for clout and attention ( trust me I’ve been there ). In this case , sunmi is exposing the people who are always seeking for attention on instagram but her main point here is that when people don’t get the attention they want ( the right way ) , then they often do crazier things since they believe that they’ll gain more attention from the public. I really felt it when she was doing the ice bucket challenge, when she was jumping onto the needles , when she burnt her NEW car and her bday cake , when she pretended she was dead and when she PRETENDED to be sick on a livestream ( in the music video ofcourse ). The lyrics are really deep in my opinion; she mentions stuff like ; her going blind due to her addiction to getting likes and follows, her wondering if anyone else is there ( meaning that she isn’t being true to herself) , and her saying that she already seen these things before and that she knows what happens next in the story of her life. The song’s name ‘noir’ helps us find the meaning of the video a bit more ; in French , noir means black, so if we can link this to the music video, we can infer that they’re definitely a ton of mysterious activities going on ( it’s pretty obvious due to all the crazy things she is doing throughout the whole music video) . However, Noir also means danger and once again MYSTERY ; hence all the old criminal films in the 80’s that often mentions ‘noir’ in the titles ; in addition, the song is called noir ( danger and mystery ) , because SOCIAL MEDIA itself is becoming the mysterious danger or trigger of our generation and sunmi is trying to raise awareness towards that by using this music video. In conclusion, sunmi is trying to say that you must never think that LIKES and FOLLOWS validate you because it may become dangerous and it may begin messing you up :) sorry for making the theory too long :/ hope u liked it ;)))

so in this mv she's talking about the influence of social media nowadays. People are willing to go to/through any lengths just for the likes, subscribers etc while ignoring their wellbeing. That she was consuming hearts says it all too. In one of the scenes she had bandaids all over showing the outcome of their doings. In the scene where she bit into the tomato, she wants to say that she'd rather get dislikes or bad review than nothing at all (or in that scene; even if the taste is bad) The ending shows that she has gone so far into it You can find the proper explanation here kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3eYlMWBgMTdl84.html he explained it very well

By noir she's referring to the movie genre from the 40s/50s which was defined by unsettling and/or suspenseful narrative and dark subjects, basically the video is a comment on social media addiction through the lens of a (modernized) noir film. I really like how she made it so that if you pay close attention you can see that at the beginning of the video she had 0 views/likes and they keep growing as she does progressively more dangerous and/or questionable stuff. It really shows not only how people are addicted to the validation they receive through likes and how they're willing to do anything to achieve them, but also how, as viewers, we are attracted by increasingly morbid content. In my opinion this is a very interesting social commentary, and mv as a whole (+ the song is fire). At the end, when she steps out of the set, we can see how she steps out of the social media crazed character and back into "sunmi", but when she gets to her burning car and her response is to take a selfie she shows us that she also struggles with this instagram craze. So the social critique she makes in the video isn't coming at us from a position of moral superiority, but rather from her own point of view. In conclusion, Sunmi is a queen and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I believe the “we’re in the noir” references are 2-fold but could be wrong. Here’s what I’m thinking... 1) noir meaning black. This seems to be the easiest as she’s equating sm & getting lost in all its allure, 2) noir as it refers to movies. The theme of these movies are dark with shady characters & often rundown, sleazy settings. Sounds a bit like sm to me On a side note I have to say that Sunmi, should I ever get the chance to know her (never gonna happen, I’m not delusional but I can dream), would immediately become the coolest person I’ve ever known and that would never change....

In noir movies it always ends badly (not a happy ending), it means dark black. (exactly what you said) She's tackling a social issue using all these symbolisms to show what people would do to get likes, subscribers, views, even if it means putting yourself in danger. you could also look at it as her job of an idol, they have to act a certain way, or do things to get the attention of the public/fans (#iloveyou in korean) etc. The ending scene was also another example "oh no my car is on fire...I HAVE to post it on social media"

This song is about how negative social medias can be in people's life. What's more, "noir" means black in French so yeah ce can understand the dark side of the Internet. Noir is also my favorite song from her because of the messages she wants to give in our society. Sometimes, social medias can destroy lives.

I always figured the last scene meant something like this : At theend of the day, all her crazy social media stunts were just staged stunts, on a set. So when we see all these social media moguls and it engages us because of how outlandish their acts are, a lot of the time, it's actually fake. A set and a script. Not real drama. But then when her car blows up nd Sunmi just takes a selfie, it says that even though her "stunts" are all staged, she's not safe and untouched by the whole either. It's trickled into her actual life. She may have started out as a regular person, carefully framed and shot to look like the ideal of social media life......but she's ended up becoming a victim too. Pressured - maybe insecure bcs she doesn't - to live that crayyy life she fakes.
