Hi Simon. Great progress. I have a bunch of clamps sitting around doing nothing. You are welcome to borrow them while you are doing your woodwork. Not far away on the Kapiti Coast. Cheers, Bill

Thanks Bill, I might take you up on that. But I think I a past the worst now. Although the doors could be interesting but I think I will need to get more timber for that and I can't do that for a couple of weeks.

Great to see the car coming together so well. I quite see why you wouldn't want to carry a spare wheel, but stashing a spare inner tube and a couple of tyre levers somewhere might be a wise insurance against having to abandon a road trip for somthing as simple as a puncture. It's certainly been my salvation with motorcylces more than once. Look forward to following your progress further!

Yes, that's sensible. I do have some irons and spare tubes already. What would a can of that emergency tyre spray stuff do to an inner tube?

I like your attention to detail slot head screws Your right about drilling pilot holes, without a clearance being the right size the two pieces of wood don't pull together. we use a all in one drill bit which has pilot hole clearance hole and counter sink all in one, they come in a set of different sizes. and are just quicker to use. Your also right about fixing in to end grain, they can pull out, the best practice is to angel the screw lightly in to the centre so both screws work against each other to resist pulling apart. This will also help against splitting.. Regarding your band saw every place I'v worked the have a home made box , pipe or some hoover attachment all held together with brown parcel tape arrangement. Some worked better then others depending an the bandsaw. You could try using some flexy exhaust pipe from above the saw bed so that you can adjust it to best affect. Interesting old book quite a find. Your right about most modern books .on restoration , their more a reorientation of restoration the the detail of how to do. nice to look at but never show the bit you need to see.

Yes, that's mentioned in one of the books about putting the screws in on slight angles. I manage to do that automatically! That's the other reason I split some pieces, I got my angles wrong. You do have to pay attention to which side is up so I usually label everything carefully and check before drilling and counting sinking things. Slot head wood screws (at least decent quality ones) are surprisingly hard to find these days.

I weighed one of mine with four bathroom scales and it is more than close enough. I took it to a local weighbridge which is accurate and it was not far off what the scales gave me. Certainly near enough for what I wanted. Awesome progress. Btw that book is several hundred pounds in the UK so worth hanging onto 👍🏻 looking forward to the next episode 😎

It did take me a while to find that book. I was looking out for it locally for some time. Cost the equivalent of about 100 pounds. When the car is done the tip and weigh station is handily located right by the local old car museum!

In the uk on ebay it is around £300 to £350! Will keep an eye out for it in the antique bookstores though 👍🏻 That is handy on the weighbridge being close. Trip out on an early test drive 😎

I have found that measuring and setting angles on these old cars will drive you crazy. Every time I think I have it figured out. I realize there is some detail that has eluded me. As far as your dust problem goes, here is the solution I use... Build your project in a shed that is entirely too small for the job, and it forces you to do almost all the work out in the driveway. One last thing, I hope you realize by saying "I've only had one flat tire in my life" you have now doomed yourself. Cheers

My first car I did I started in a car port on top of gravel! Sounds like the start of a Monty Python sketch....
