Prayer Is a Mystery I Season One, Episode 14

Ойын-сауық

Have you prayed for something and God said no? We all have (if we are honest). We have all prayed for something or someone, and the outcome is not what we wanted or expected. The truth is, if when we come to God with our prayers and expect Him to work the outcome in the way we want, we treat God like He is a vending machine. Prayer isn’t transactional, it is relational. It isn’t about getting what we want, it’s about getting God.
Sometimes we get a no, that is true. But that does not mean that God is displeased with you. His no is often the kindest possible answer He can give to you. Throughout the Bible, we see God say no to heroes of the faith; David, Paul, and even Jesus. But look at how God not only blessed them, but used them. So if you get a no from God, you are in good company.
Join Candace and Tara-Leigh as they share vulnerable moments about their life through this conversation around prayer and hearing no from God.
In this episode, you will hear Candace and Tara-Leigh discuss:
The difference between a transactional prayer and a relational prayer.
When Jesus got a no from the Father and how important that moment is to understand when it comes to your prayer life and relationship with Him.
How no is often God’s kindest possible answer, and often the answer we are grateful for in hindsight.
What the landscape of Candace’s prayers look like.
The moment that Candace recognized divorce was a no from God (through an honest conversation with her kids).
Scripture Memory of the Season:
1 John 5:1-5 (CSB) Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him. This is how we know that we love God’s children; when we love God and obey His commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. And His commands are not a burden, because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. Who is the one who conquers the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

I feel guilty for praying for things for myself when there are so many in the world need things much more than me. I know He is there for all of us, but if anyone gets a "no" for an answer, I want the needed person to get the "yes".

Ohhh, but God will give the yes and no as He sees fit whether you are praying for yourself or not. He is powerful enough to answer prayers for you and others. You are not so powerful that you will cause someone else to get a no because you prayed something for yourself. God is limitless! He has no limits on His answers. Don't try to put a limit on Him. You are not helping someone else get a yes by not including yourself in your prayers. You are only hurting yourself by giving into guilt that is coming from the enemy. ❤️

To the topic on prayers that dont get answered, its so important to also remember this world is broken because of sin and God doesnt want it that way so He went to the cross to make everything right again in Heaven! This world is broken and God doesnt want it to be this way. He grieves with us in these hard times and promised to redeem it for us. The prayers of healing and relief are ultimately answered in a yes-in Heaven

Wow! Thank you for sharing your heart and wisdom. I needed to hear these words ladies, thank you. Also, I have been a Christian for over 20 years but never read the Bible and always wanted to. I mean, I have read the Bible but not front to back or in chronological order. I have the Bible app, and I downloaded the recap app, and I'm on day 5 of reading through the Bible with my husband. I'm so grateful grateful. Keep shining for Jesus ladies!

I love to pray. Like Candace said, i like to start with gratitude and praise for who God is. Then ask for forgiveness for things i'm doing wrong. It's funny cause i do the same thing and ask for forgiveness for things that I'm not aware of that are displeasing. I was laughing when Candace said that. This was a wonderful episode. Thank you both for sharing your personal 'NO' stories. Very thankful for both your No's :) Thank you ladies for these uplifting and God focused episodes. Grateful for you both.

I prayed for God to heal him and that didn't happen so I asked God for strength and guidance to make all the decisions . I mad enthe hardest decision to not let them do any more surgery and just keep him comfortable. I knew God wanted me to let him be at peace and gave me the strength to get thru thos. Thank you Candace and Tara for all of this.

Romans 7:15-25 ESV For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.

Candace- thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your real life marriage struggle. Alot of times watching a star like you online… it seems that you have a perfect life. A perfect husband, and a perfect family. A perfect home. A perfect Job. I was so moved by you opening up about your marriage struggles. I have been married to my husband for almost 27 years. And there are so many moments of great joy, but there are also a lot of hard times. Times when I don’t like him very much… and I was so heartened to hear that you have struggled to the point of contemplating divorce and that you stuck it out and kept the Bible at the forefront of your marriage. You are beautiful inside and out and are doing Gods work sharing the gospel message 💕🙏

My NO, was being a Mom to raise my children - I had to accept GOD moving my children into adoption and me going through persecution and a list of lies behind me - but I would not be so close to JESUS today had I not been broken into that heartbreaking decision...forgiveness meant so much more too. I still do not hear from my younger children and my eldest died in 2019 to a heroin overdose - but I have a wonderful grandson I am able to communicate to.....but I have to admit, mentally I am still struggling with the results of my younger children - and now you two have given me hope, thank you for this podcast moment.

I also can recite all the presidents in order and it is in a song. I learned it in elementary school. It was a 5/6th concert and the other grade learned the states in alphabetical order (which I can only do about 1/3 of that one). I'm 42 so it must have been part of some school curriculum. 😂

One of my favorurite songs makes reference to those who believe prayer is like spinning a slot machine: "Laughing With" by Regina Spektor "....God could be funny When told he'll give you money If you just pray the right way And when presented like a genie Who does magic like Houdini Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket And Santa Claus God could be so hilarious..." It's a wonderful song and I quote the lead lyric "No one laughs at God in a hospital" to many who profess not to believe.

But why/how could a loving, powerful God ever give a no to a child with cancer?

  • @peggylee2267

    @peggylee2267

God did not bring the disease. The credit for that goes to satan. Romans 8:28. God's ways are higher and He works all things for good. All loving parents eventually say no to their children. Trust in God's love, and His timing. I prayed to God as a young child to be delivered from abuse and received a no from God. At the time, I didn't understand. God is faithful, and He is always refining us.

That’s a great question, Meaghan, and it’s so hard to answer. Here’s my attempt at thinking through this, although I admit it’s not an answer. When an ultrasound showed that our identical twin daughters were no longer alive, people prayed that the ultrasound was wrong, or that the girls would miraculously be alive despite the fact that they weren’t alive for the ultrasound, as I was going into the delivery room. And we and others had been praying for the twins and for their health and safety for the five months that they were in my womb alive. Yet, they were stillborn. I do not know why God allowed the girls to die even before we got to meet them. I do know that we live in a broken, fallen, sinful world and that bad things happen all the time because of that. And I do know that bad things are not God’s will. And I do know that even in the worst of circumstances, God can bring good. What I also know is that I had been intentionally cultivating my relationship with the LORD long before this pregnancy. I had learned through scripture, prayer, relationships with other Christians, and experience that God is a loving, good Father, that Jesus is my Savior and Lord and friend, and that the Spirit is always with me, guiding me and molding me into the person he created me to be in the image of Jesus. So when we got the results of the ultrasound on that October day, one of the first conversations I had with the LORD was simply me saying, “I still trust you.” And believe me, I was grieving and sobbing on the floor while saying that. But I knew the LORD well before that day, and I knew his heart and his love. So why does the LORD say no to prayers like “heal this child of cancer?” I can’t answer that for any specific request. I know the LORD sees the past, present and future, and that he is working his sovereign plan for me and for the world, and that he is completely good and trustworthy. By the way, our daughters died twenty-six years ago. I still know that the LORD is good. And I see his goodness whenever I look for it.

Hi, ladies ~ This was my fave episode thus far…not that you’re doing this for ppl, I get that it is first for God, though I figure that it’s nice for you both to receive feedback, too. It helped me to reignite my wonder for and appreciation of prayer itself. ~ I love to pray, but now I’m feel really on fire 🔥 for it! I wanna share more time with Jesus, in his sweet presence, after this episode. All love 💕🙏🏻 PS Tara’s comment re: perfectionism (around 24:10) was spot on for me, so thanks for ministering to this “recovering perfectionist!” 😀

Hi, so I had chronic pain for about 4 years. There is a lot in this topic, I'll try to summarize it. It brings out how you feel about yourself and things you take for granted. We get prideful and greedy even if we are "good" people. I would never be as grateful for my body if I didn't live with chronic pain, even when it's not working right. I've never really given that much thought before. I'm able to connect to people of all kind of health things because of it. I also learned how to lean on God. This is just a part of it. I could probably write a whole book on what I've noticed.

I have loved listening to u both!! I have since started the Bible recap 🥳I want to hear y’all so badly in Texas!! How do you deal with jealousy and ur husband and having so much attention.. I find this a huge struggle for me .. not bc I don’t trust my husband but women are just so disrespectful in general an inconsiderate .. I don’t want to feel this way but I have been hurt in past relationships and I guess I haven’t fully forgiven people or something but I feel it’s getting worse at times.. I ask god to help me out off these characters but I haven’t been able to fully walk in it .

Candace is right. Paul said that in Romans. "For we know that the Torah is spiritual; but I am of the flesh, sold to sin. For I do not understand what I am doing-for what I do not want, this I practice; but what I hate, this I do. But if I do what I do not want to do, then I agree with the Torah-that it is good. So now it is no longer I doing it, but sin dwelling in me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me-that is, in my flesh. For to will is present in me, but to do the good is not. For the good that I want, I do not do; but the evil that I do not want, this I practice. But if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I doing it, but sin that dwells in me. So I find the principle-that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I delight in the Torah of God with respect to the inner man, but I see a different law in my body parts, battling against the law of my mind and bringing me into bondage under the law of sin which is in my body parts. Miserable man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God-it is through Messiah Yeshua our Lord! So then, with my mind I myself serve the Torah of God; but with my flesh, I serve the law of sin." Romans 7:14‭-‬25 TLV

Paul IS Saul. I was made aware that God did NOT change his name. His Jewish name was Saul but he was speaking to the Gentiles as Paul. Wow! Just realized what yo said about Paul! 🤯 Lesson 2: the context of the Life scripture for Candace! For such a time as this... God WILL have HIS WILL done but are we gonna be used or perish, "forgotten"?! Your prayer issue much of a prettier analogy... I say Lord gut me like a TGiving turkey, like a harvest pumpkin! I should proabaly say it nicer... I'm SO excited to see what God does with the children HE loaned me for 18 years. IDC if I'm alive to see it, that is just a perk! 🙏 for them they are NOT serving the Lord in any way shape or form.

OH MY YES, "TREATING GOD like a vending machine" - how often I see BELIEVERS KICKING THE VENDING MACHINE IN THEIR PRAYERS. Like when a person wants to honour GOD by casting out demons and gets frustrated at the demon and yells at it 'COME OUT' - and the demon stays. Like JESUS never had to YELL at a demon - so why do some Believers think if they yell at it, then they'll obey the believer?

I know you won't answer this, but WHY would you want to do podcasts on marriage, parenting, or any other worldly thing. I LOVED this 1st season, but unfortunately I won't be watching anymore 😞 because the truth is, I honestly could care LESS about this world (literally) Why wouldn't you and Tara Lee talk about God ALL the time (there's enough TOPICS) This might sound bad but I don't mean too, but the truth is, you'll probably lose alot of viewers after this season THIS was a good season; couldn't you just stick with God topics
