6 Jun 2024 Since this is a Canadian TV production the vast majority of the gags are staged in your country, understandably so. But once in a rare while you do feature fun moments of unsuspecting participants shot in a foreign locale, which is of course much appreciated. At 10 mins 45 secs of this episode the action moves to Singapore, my homeland, featuring an elderly gentleman outside our "Dhoby Ghaut" MRT station (Mass Rapid Transit rail system). Because of the rather strict/stringent licensing conditions mandated for public entertainment activities in my country, the proposed fun gag must be approved by the relevant government agency beforehand (mostly for safety/security/law and order/maintaining social harmony concerns). The scripted scenario here is rather simple and no fuss. Costs in setting up elaborate props is naturally taken into consideration too. How well played out is the moment of mischief? You decide, viewers. A while back in another episode there was also another instance of a prank shot in Singapore, where the protagonist is asking for directions while puzzling over a multi-fold map. As she turns to face the direction as indicated by some passers-by, a fake axe plunged into her back is revealed. A bit lame in my book. But harmless fun all in all. No dates are given for when the gags were staged in "Just for Laughs". Also I do not believe such events are publicised in our news. At least not that I have ever come across. Why, when Hong Kong movie superstar Andy Lau was in Singapore some years back and shot the harrowing stunt of him hanging on for dear life on the outside of a speeding MRT carriage while another train flies past in the reverse direction (with a safe gap in between the two tracks of course!) there certainly was no prior notification to feed public curiosity and frenzy. I can only imagine the amount of paperwork and in-person meetings between the film entourage and our government officials. Gracias.
