They recalled using music and fake laughing because they want this show to be for everyone across languages barriers since what's spoken here would be in French and English. I personally think they do a great job of explaining what the joke is through not verbal clues. Sure the fake laugh can get old but I love that I can watch it and love it without knowing the language.

Gonna be honest, and I totally get you, but in my opinion (although the music and sound effects are cheesy and annoying), somehow the simplicity of only seeing the facial expressions makes for particularly nice entertainment to unwind to. The mindlessness of it? I don't know.
