Praise To The Lord, The Almighty - 1965 Allen Custom Analog Organ

Музыка

It has been a little while since I've uploaded a video, having been busy. But this past week, I was able to install capacitors in the expression circuit of the organ. This organ - evidently - never had any, but Allen did use them for sure in their 1970s digital organs. The capacitors allow for a taper to the expression, when the pedals are closed, the lower notes are not as quiet as the higher notes. This has a big effect in the pedal. Before, closing the expression pedals would quiet everything and sound poorly. Now the pedals continue to speak when playing a softer passage in the hands.
So, here is 'Praise To The Lord, The Almighty', and I make some use of the expression in the early part of the song.
Still need to fix the pesky reed note that is out of tune though!

I just spotted a 4 manual organ listed in FB group "Electronic Organ Garage Sale" which is described as being the largest Analog Allen built, originally installed in El Paso Symphony Hall, what is inside it is unknown if it is the original analog equipment or if it was refurbished (could be either). I don't know if you might know of anyone else that is looking for a vintage Allen or if you might want two, unfortunately I am in the UK so I can't save it. Edit: It is in Brownwood, Texas.

Good to know! I'm in the Northeast US, so it's a little outside of my range. That said, I believe the El Paso / Brownwood TX organ is an AOB (Associated Organ Builders), which was one of the last builders of custom analog organs. This one, assuming it's original, has over 200 audio amplifiers and 300 speakers, and roughly 5,000 oscillators, and is indeed the largest analog organ ever built.

@@AdamPilbeam85 It was listed as AOB, I mistook it for AOC. The full post reads... [_]"AOB organ originally instead in the El Paso Symphony Hall. Originally this was the largest analog electronic organ ever built with over 7,000 discreet oscillators. I am unaware of what system it is using now - it may be original and it may not be. This instrument needs to be relocated to a new home. Extensive testing has not been done, however the combination action appears to be functional, couplers, and some of the stops are working and others are not. The non-working stops could be anything from a generator not working to one of the amplifiers not working, or a cabling issue. No further testing has been done. Interested parties will need to provide labor and equipment for the removal of the console and other ancillary equipment in a timely and professional manner."[_] There someone who mentioned fitting it with VPO gear. I hope this is not what it ends up as since that happened to the UK's largest analog (Makin). Are you in that group?

@@FM60260 It would indeed be a shame if someone stripped the innards out of it to make it a VPO. Good consoles are easy enough to find for that purpose already. I have found - so far - my analog Allen to be easy enough to fix, and I suspect they actually have a longer lifespan than any VPO or digital out there since the discrete parts are easy enough to come by from many sources. I'm not on Facebook, so don't belong to the groups on there.
