From what i saw in the video and read in the comments i can say, nehru had the best intentions just that his methods were wrong, he was a little soft for the politics going around him. He misjudged the situations and took decisions thinking of a bigger picture whereas the situation demanded focussing more on the near future. I may be wrong but this is what i could figure out.

His major mistake was that he wanted to apply his own intention and determination as the decision of the whole nation. And every time a Prime Minister shouldn't be soft. Though as the first Prime Minister of a newly free country few wrong decisions may take place. But the UN membership and VETO Power issue etc these were not acceptable at all.

+Anas khan what's wrong in saying that ? Till 1962 Nehru think there is no need of army, results 62 & 65 wars. 42 sqd minimum for Air Force was reviewed in early 60's, we have 33. It is not the fault of armed forces, it's the fault of our dead ass political system. If I was in power during 62 war, surly forced Nehru to go & fight with Chinese while wearing wet chaddi only.

Truth is , China is now far ahead of India, be economically or military wise, it has better infrastructure and hence enjoys an edge when in comes to the frontier areas. It enjoys 'veto' power (courtesy of Nehru!) and hence beats India in the international diplomatic arena too. China cannot be defeated, the only solution is to 'CONTAIN CHINA'. And the best way to contain China is by maintaining strategic relations with Japan, South Korea, the ASEAN (particularly Vietnam and the Philippines) and most important with the USA (with their pivot to Asia-Pacific). China prides itself on being the world's factory, but this factory needs energy (Oil and Gas), raw materials and customer (EU and US)orders to function. China is trying hard to procure these, and that's their vulnerability! If this factory shuts down, millions of Chinese get out of jobs, they protest and the Communist party loses its support among the masses and the world too. We cant shut that factory, but we can surely drive them out of work. 'Made in China' needs to be superseded with 'Made in India' & made in 'among above countries friendly to India'. Remember, military war is not the solution here, they can only be humbled when defeated economically.....

Present generation needs to know what happened during that time. How our soldiers fought an enemy vastly superior to them in numbers and supplies, did everything to stop them halted there advance with whatever little they had. 42,735 Square kilometres area has been trapped by China which is equal to the 28 states like New Delhi.. Unbelievable.. How could be they captured a vast area of land.. Really, fighting with the country like Pakistan and China, the texture of India decreased to a large extent.. If that area is now with India then India will be very wide spread country..

I used to hate Jawaharlal Nehru but after watching this I have utmost respect for him. we would never understand his plight as a prime minister of an almost broken country which had been on a verge of a civil war.. HE avoided the issue of border talks with china as he was well aware of the fact that India was not in a condition to face a war with China and so he wanted things to resolve cordially. but when a war was inevitable he had to do it . He saw this coming ever since and all he wanted was to avoid any aggression as INDIA was in no economic and nuclear position to have a war. Iam a hardcore BJP supporter but I do understand Mr.Nehrus opinion now. We can't forget his contributions in uniting Indian states and criticising him just by his few decisions is wrong on every level . We criticise MODI for so many policies but all he wants is a bright future for India .same is the case with all other PRIME MINISTERS of india. Nehru was a great democrat but he was very ideal just like Gandhi. He never thought of such a response from China. If I hate him for policies on China I love him for the strong foundation he gave to our democracy. Many people say that Patel or Bose should have been the PM but Patel died in 1950 and Bose died in 1945. Patel was like the big brother of Nehru I believe after his death Nehru became alone and no one was there to guide him. Still, we should remember him as a great statesman who led to a strong foundation of our country. And we should work hard to fulfill his dreams of a stronger prosperous India. Being economically capable is what we need to counter china and take our territory back. And I can proudly say that we are moving in the direction he always wanted for India.

I wish we had a different pm...India's history would have been different n so much better

It was not such simple brother. That time nation was in such a condition where such a leader was needed who can live long for years. And can plan and execute them in front of his own eyes. 2nd it is very true that Nehru wanted to be PM and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel sir also agreed to this. Also he was the Vice P.M. He was the main reason of integration of India. B.R. Ambedkar left the parliament in 1951. Sardar sir died in early years too. Indian Politics got weaken then. However, I don't believe that Nehru did everything wrong. He was also a patriotic person yet weaker. Probably it is the reason why he took wrong decisions but intentions were not wrong. Being a Prime Minister is not easy. A small wrong decision can leave worst affects. I personally think as a nation we must respect and feel proud of whatever our ancestors has left us. Be it Sardar sir, Nehru, Gandhi, Bose, Rajeev, Bala Shab, and we must be respectful for what our current PM Narendra Modi ji will leave to country.

A PM who thinks no requirement of armed forces in a nation can't be respectable, india win independence coz of freedom fighters like Bose , Bhagat singh , sardar Patel , azzad etc, there was a minimal effect on British from congress n Muslim league

The complete truth is not shown. The fact is that Nehru was shit scared of the military. He was afraid of a military takeover that had happened in almost all other countries which had got independence at the same time. The defense minister menon was more interested in foreign affairs then defense. He travelled all over the world but never bothered to visit the indian armed forces anywhere in India. He stopped all ordinance factories from producing weapons and ammuniation. In fact at the time of war all ordinance factories where producing household utensils instead of weapons. The Chinese prepared for war right from the time they got independence. Nehru was destroying the indian army right from Indpendence.The Chinese loved nehru. They considered him to be the most stupid politician a country can get. The war was necessary from the Chinese view point. The wanted to tell India what can happen if India ever opposes China in the future. And they were more then 100% successful. Even today the Indian politicians are shit scared of china. Even today they dont have the guts to oppose China on any issue. What a shame.

Yeah, that's more of less accurate I think. Mind you, Nehru wasn't unjustified in being wary of the military. That same British-trained military had kicked out the pakistani government just four years ago in 1958. However he had made the blunder of surrounding himself with yesmen and cronies and had inserted people into positions where they were ill suited. Shashi Tharoor in his novel "The Great Indian Novel" as well as Arun Shourie in his book on Indian-Chinese relations confirm what you've written about V.K. Krishna Menon being ill-suited to being a defense minister in a crisis. Then there is the difference in mentality. Nehru, the idealist socialist could not understand Chinese communism. He thought that with his close friends in the West and his Cambridge education he'd be a bridge between China and the West and thus the most important statesman in Asia. Instead, the West ignored him and the Chinese considered him a "running dog of the US and UK". He did not see that China already saw itself the equal of the US, having successfully stopped US gains in Korea in 1952. The strategic blunder I think was not forcefully supporting the Tibetans in 1958-59 and not being wise about "friendship in strength". Of course, that is easy for us to say in hindsight. Even today, our media is happy to tomtom about "Tiger vs. Dragon" when in fact China and India are two different beasts entirely. As a country we're afraid of confrontation. Bangladeshi army fires on our soldiers, Sri lankans capture our fishermen, and the nepalese cannot stop the ISI from shipping RDX into india through its territory. How a country is treated begins with what kind of an image it projects of itself.

What's the point, he died in 1950 and in any case then PM would have been Nehru again. In my opinion it was good that sardar was not PM, otherwise Nehru would have been Home Minister and I don't think that would have gone down well with public. Also I don't thing any other decision by Nehru could have stopped Chinese invasion. They were powerful. Its great they declared a ceasefire (may be due to govt. diplomacy at that time) otherwise they could have easily moved further

ak you are wrong. After sardar either azad or ambedkar had become pm. Nehru was not ready to take any post other than pm and head threatened that he will split the congress. You can search for sardar letter to nehru not to gift Tibet to China in 1950. He asked to send army to Tibet border. After gifting Tibet in 1954 nehru decided not to give south Tibet to China as india will further lose control over north east border. So he got dalai lama in india. With dalai lama here nehru started forward post operations in south Tibet. China attacked india and after defeating india pulled back it's troops. China has forced dalai lama many times to say that arunachal Pradesh belongs to china but he hasn't even though nehru never send a single soldier for the protection of tibetians when china attacked as per 1912 agreement.

Excellent episode.i Salute Mr.Shekhar Kapoor.he is true patriotic indian not like the people who don't have the heart to accept the reality & they try to blame the leaders of the past.they did act best according to the time & situation.I salute them as they were having no experiance in running the government & they did manage to bring nation on its feet.now it is easy to criticize wat happen in the past.but it is difficult to take decision at that time & they did (not excellent) Good.

Nehru was the real culprit behind everything like Kashmir, China etc. His deeds are being paid off by our soldiers till today's date and this is really dreadful.One man which I loved the most is PATEL. He should be our First PM.
