    Police Roadcraft now only have 3 positions and have since 2013. It seems that RoADAR are somewhat behind with changing to this. Just to be sure position 1 is towards the kerb. verge but not too close, about the track of a nearside cars wheel. position 2 is the sump line which would be between the nearside and offside wheels and position 3 is out towards the offside of the road about where the offside wheels of a car would drive . The old positions 1 and 5 being closer to the kerb or verge and or closer to the middle lines, central of the road are no longer instructed in by the Police or other road safety organisations as they are considered to be increasingly dangerous. Its about time RoSPA followed suite.

    Spot on video, doing advanced cornering techniques tends to make you a faster(safe) smoother rider. Also keep changing your road positions makes you more visible to car drivers. Amazing scenery!!

    You are right Toby, we are always learning how to ride better and your tips help us to remember how to ride safe. Sometimes it seems I forget. Noticed you use to ride in low revs, do you use the shift assist?

  • @RiderCamTV

    @RiderCamTV

    5 жыл бұрын

    yep, shift assist nearly all the time and i try to keep the bike in the middle 3rd rev range as it is more responsive there and means you can power on and off easily to match the road conditions ..... Glad the video helped :)

    Hi Toby, good video I think we all can interpret the road conditions differently and position accordingly. As regards the brakes, a little touch of the brakes even if it doesn't slow you down is a psychological thing, it just inspires a little confidence for some riders.

  • @krytenLister

    @krytenLister

    Touching the brakes indicates you haven't read the corner properly and feel the need to brake...then realise you don't actually

  • @RiderCamTV

    @RiderCamTV

    5 жыл бұрын

    very true Peter, but sometimes can take the concentration away from the road and also sometimes could show that you have not read the road correctly. It is for some a calmer, but if you are breaking you could put the bike balance out meaning you have to compensate later for it when you perhaps didnt need in the first place :)

    Helpful video! I can see I ride in the wrong rev range (2000rpm) and where you are in second gear I’d be in third or even fourth.... This largely down to age and 50 years of driving barge-like cars but it’s clear I will have to explore the noisier side of 3000rpm on my CB1100. Cheers Tony

    Sometimes riding in too high a gear causes one to fight the controls and lacks input and response from the throttle. Is best to ride in perhaps a lower gear and as said have more valuable response from the bike. It makes bends so much easier and safer..

    @@RiderCamTV All your achieving is a total lack of sympathy for the motorbike & a potential compromise in control. Slow the Bike before the bend using Brakes (if required)… Use the system Information Position Speed Gear. Then you should be accelerating into the corner to bed the rear tyre in & create grip. First phase… Second phase as your limit point goes away. Honestly I’d be in 5th/6th gear for those corners.

    true true, but why use the brakes when the engine does it all for you? had the brakes to slow gears to go on the driving course for 5 weeks, but riding in the middle rev range provides so much engine braking its unreal :)

  • @motorvelo

    Sorry to say you are talking rubbish. IAM use 5 points across the lane. Your positioning requires quite a lot of attention. The advice you give is poor and confusing. IAM system IPSGA uses brakes for slowing not gears. Please stop giving out poor information.
