Practice Time Using the Indian Super Chief Limited

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Decided to take the Indian Super Chief Limited out for some practice time in a parking lot. Since recording this video, I've watched more videos (many repeats) of MotorMan and Mojo. I think lean angle and maintaining steady throttle will significantly help during my next session. Just need to get used to the feeling.

I find right turns are trickier, you're doing well there and practicing it is the best thing you could be doing, nice one.

Right turns seem to be hard for most people, I know i fall into that category as well. I find a tiny bit of rear brake drag, steady throttle, good clutch management on the right turn tightens it up so i don't end up in the far lane. Be The Boss of Your Motorcycle has helped me out tremendously with the slow stuff. When I'm out in my car i watch bikes when they come to a stop and then turn, I don't think enough people practice what your doing (myself included).

Thanks for the tips! I think I'm struggling with the steady throttle and holding that clutch on the right turns. I'm editing some footage from another practice and definitely had issues with the stuff you've noted. I'm down a rabbit hole of videos on Be The Boss, Mojo, and Motor Man. But I think Be The Boss has one of the better ways of explaining it that is working better for me.

It appears to me that you are not turning the bars enough, and, you are hesitant to lean the bike. Remember, as long as you maintain power to the rear wheel you will not drop the bike. And you are not keeping your bars turned during your turn. You have a tendency of straightening the bars before completing your turn! Also, on your last video on the Springfield you mentioned counter steering. Counter steering only applies when going around 15mph or faster! Not when doing slow speed maneuvers. Good luck, I enjoy your videos!

Appreciate the tips. Was out yesterday (may share some of that footage later) and agree with your points. Definitely straightening out, definitely hesitant to lean. I made some progress on the left. Right was still stuff.

I think a line cones (about 7 or so) at 12 ft apart (slow cone weave) along with a 24 foot circle of cones would be good. The slow cone weave will get you practicing countersteering and leaning and the 24 foot circle will get you more use to leaning. You can make it smaller later or bigger now. The cones will bring an abstract fear into stark reality. You can make the circle by putting a cone in the middle, putting a 12 foot string on it and putting cones out at those points where the string ends making a 24 foot circle. Keep your eyes out at the same distance of the last cone for the slow cone weave (basically infinity). Once you get those down, right and left turns will be easier. If you actually set up cones for a right or a left turn right now, it's going to be really frustrating. Also check out the video by Moto Control called "How to Lean with No Fear".

On the slow cone weave, how fast would you need to go to counter steer vs just steering? I guess most sites say 15 miles per hour? I think when I did the local course that was one of my issues. I was going too slow probably for that exercise. Good point about the circle at 24 ft apart.

@@RamblinManMoto In the slow cone weave I think I am generally going about 8 mph ish all the way through at 12 feet apart. Your speed shouldn't change once your start. I am guessing because if I were to look at my speedometer, I would run over a cone. lol If you run over one cone, you will probably run over all of them. I do know that I clear the whole line of cones in just a few seconds though whether I run over them or not, usually not if am looking at the right distance out. Later, the cones get offset (instead of being in a straight line) every other cone so the speed will change as well as the option to do anything except countersteering. At that point it is called a slalom.

For mine it appears that you are not using your rear brake during friction zone, look up the term friction zone

What year is your bike? None of the new ones are offered with a tank graphic like that on the super chief.

@@The2ndProtectsTheRest Thank you for that. The first bike I did was my Scout. I did a terrible job on that one. Ended up paying a shop $50 to put it on for me. For this bike, I did much better. I watched Motor Man's video about putting decals on and took my time with it. You just use soapy water and a credit card as a squeegee and take your time to work out the bubbles. The toughest part for me was making sure I aligned both sides roughly equal. I haven't done this to my Springfield as I'm not sure it would look as good and it has the two tone paint. I'm glad how it turned out on the Super Chief. You'll also note I swapped out the Super Chief spoke wheel for the wheels from a Chief. I had a heck of a time finding anyone that would work on my tires/wheels when it was spoke. Wanted to be able to fix a flat easily on the road too if needed.
