Practical Race XC Dream Build for a NICA / Devo Kid
In this practical dream build, I’m building an XC race bike for my son for his devo racing. For this build, I’ve slowly been collecting parts from wherever I can source them. Some were purchased new, some were purchased used, some were from my bike bin. I’ll provide a running total of the price, I’ll link in the description to the parts purchased, and I’ll put the weight of the bike at the end, in case any of you are interested in building something similar for a young shredder in your life.

Exactly! I've been watching restoration videos for years as a method of helping me deal with insomnia. :)
This is my dream bike Your son is so lucky to have a father like you 😇😊
I remember seeing this bike at my local bike shop only it was the gravel bike and not the hard tail scale you see in this video. My GOD I fell in love with the colors and paint job. Seeing it again in this video makes me wish I had bought it. Of course Scott makes some of the best looking bikes ever~
Awesome - proud dad moment right there! Enjoy every minute

Cause tubes are cheap and heavy,and the bare wheel we call tubeless tyre with sealant,its better then cheap tube and lightweight

Exactly
Defo unkink that hose before bleeding, you could easily trap air in the line. Also a full bleed never killed anyone after cutting a brake line lol.
@BuildaBetterBike
Жыл бұрын
Why full bleed when the mineral oil is brand new? Seems a waste of time and oil. This worked great.
Another amazing video! I know you loved the builds so the question is moot but for someone who is trying to assess the options, do you think it's worth doing the build yourself or just buying outright?
@BuildaBetterBike
3 жыл бұрын
If I were to find this EXACT bike somewhere, it would probably be selling for a comparable price. I'm probably not saving anything by providing my own labor to build it myself. BUT, what most people overlook is that by doing a build myself, it means I can spend much less on parts that matter much less. For instance, why pay for brand new or handlebars, stems, seatpost, seat, and even the frame, when you gain very little by these being new? If everything on this build was brand new, this bike would be much much more expensive. I'm less picky with these components because they are less likely to fail when used. Focusing only on parts that you really want to be new (like drive train, brake system) saves me a lot of money and makes it well worth it to do my own build.

What is your torque wrench of choice? Thanks!
What is the gray stuff you use when installing the BB? It looks like grease but different from the blue grease you use on other stuff.
@BuildaBetterBike

I use assembly grease (gray) for non-moving parts. Blue, marine grease for moving parts.

pls correct the cable routing of the shifter..
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the ... milk? that he pours in the tyre at 6:22, and what does it do?
@Manetty6

Tubeless sealant
@MrJonathanpearce
3 жыл бұрын
It stops punctures, basically it’s got tiny bits of rubber floating in it so if your tyre gets a hole in it the rubber seals it back up. (In case you didn’t know what tubeless sealant was)
Soon
The bad thing about knowing a lot about bike, and bike repair is that you see all the mistakes in videos like these, great vid tho, keep up the great content 👍

@@BuildaBetterBike when you’re tightening any sort of clamp or pinch clamp, like the ones on the stem, once you’ve torqued down all the bolts, you should always re torque the other nuts, because they can get loosened by the other ones getting tighter, also, on the stem, try to tighten the nuts in a star pattern (top left, bottom right, bottom left, top right). also, this might not be true, but you shouldn’t install a stem without a headset spacer, I understand it was a second hand fork, and it was to short, and that is the danger of buying second hand I am not trying to hate on you,we all have points we can improve on.🙂 Edit: you should also spread the grease on the hub splines
where did you buy the frame

Seriously, the bar needs to be at least of raceface atlas degree in a combo with the same kind of stem at minimal to drive a line
Me. Having trouble asking my dad for a tire😂
It would be better with Flat Pedals. But over all great build.
What price that bike
Great build! Did you have to modify the pile to male it shorter travel? I guess the scale supports up to 120mm

Only thing i saw was a hub/body switch, went from a hub with a microspline body to 10/11s shimano body, nvm, was a complete wheel swap
