Practical Race XC Dream Build for a NICA / Devo Kid

In this practical dream build, I’m building an XC race bike for my son for his devo racing. For this build, I’ve slowly been collecting parts from wherever I can source them. Some were purchased new, some were purchased used, some were from my bike bin. I’ll provide a running total of the price, I’ll link in the description to the parts purchased, and I’ll put the weight of the bike at the end, in case any of you are interested in building something similar for a young shredder in your life.

Seeing it again in this video makes me wish I had bought it. Of course Scott makes some of the best looking bikes ever~

    Another amazing video! I know you loved the builds so the question is moot but for someone who is trying to assess the options, do you think it's worth doing the build yourself or just buying outright?

  • @BuildaBetterBike

    @BuildaBetterBike

    3 жыл бұрын

    If I were to find this EXACT bike somewhere, it would probably be selling for a comparable price. I'm probably not saving anything by providing my own labor to build it myself. BUT, what most people overlook is that by doing a build myself, it means I can spend much less on parts that matter much less. For instance, why pay for brand new or handlebars, stems, seatpost, seat, and even the frame, when you gain very little by these being new? If everything on this build was brand new, this bike would be much much more expensive. I'm less picky with these components because they are less likely to fail when used. Focusing only on parts that you really want to be new (like drive train, brake system) saves me a lot of money and makes it well worth it to do my own build.

    @@BuildaBetterBike when you’re tightening any sort of clamp or pinch clamp, like the ones on the stem, once you’ve torqued down all the bolts, you should always re torque the other nuts, because they can get loosened by the other ones getting tighter, also, on the stem, try to tighten the nuts in a star pattern (top left, bottom right, bottom left, top right). also, this might not be true, but you shouldn’t install a stem without a headset spacer, I understand it was a second hand fork, and it was to short, and that is the danger of buying second hand I am not trying to hate on you,we all have points we can improve on.🙂 Edit: you should also spread the grease on the hub splines
