Excellent breakdown. I've been doing this lock in multiple ways for decades, yet you taught me a few things.

Wow! It's an awesome technique for sure, but only a master like yourself could pull it off in a real world scenario. Too many working parts for the street, at least for me. It's fun watching you do it through. 🙂

You are right about being too complicated and too many moving parts for general street application. On the practical side of things. Sometimes opportunities present themselves during a ruckus, And if you at least understand the lock, It can be applied. Thanks for your kind words.

I'm only an orange belt right now and I am not at all confident in my skill with locks. I try them and they just don't seem to work. I am plenty strong enough but it feels as though I cannot get the proper form. I know it's a matter of technique. I want to learn them but for now in a street situation I'm going for a strike. Of course if I have to rely on that against someone who has MA training I'll probably find myself in a lock I don't know how to do. Doh!!

@@chadcleary7821 All you can do is continue to train and do your best. You never know what your opponent knows. Use techniques that are easy to use and execute when you are in real world situations. The last person that tried to grapple me on the street got a broken nose for his troubles. He tried to "shoot" in and met my knee strike directly. I'm pretty well rounded, but for street encounters I vastly prefer strikes so I can break and exit the situation. You can't do that grappling, and your opponent might have buddies that will knife the crap out of you while you are engaged with the first guy.

that's a daitoryu/Aikido sankyo, performed fairly averagely. the grip is too low on the hand and the alignment through the spiral across the shoulder yolk isnt there. You should watch the Aikido Silverdale channel ( a technical genius) or even Saito sensei. Also, tell that kid to take his bracelet off on the mat, its in the way and dangerous, someone could get there fingers caught.

Appreciate the input. I've always enjoyed seeing the similarities between styles. But that's just what it is a similarity I'm not trying to teach Aikido, I prefer smaller circles. I looked up videos on the sankyo And I see the similarity but that is not the lock I'm applying, It's different and you can feel it. I'm sure you know when it comes to locking slight variations turn it into different locks. Cheers

Aikijujutsu was made for combat. So the application in Hapkido is more combative in nature due to Aikijujutsu being the main base of the art.

I find it amazing that every goof thinks he can tell others they’re wrong on the internet and they’re right about everything. Tons of variations of this technique. I like the bouncing story , good distraction technique to apply this technique. Interesting. If it’s working in that environment which I personally know that it does, it’s a good technique 👍.

@@jujitsuman9934 that's true also, I was simply pointing out from a technical POV the grip was iffy, if you're demonstrating it as a technical basic.

@@nikosskeptikos6295 grabbing the fingers is a little different variation then I’ve seen. Going into a Moro yubi Tori looks as if this instructor is setting up his next movement of taking Uke backwards to the floor. In the system I studied and taught we use this technique as more of a come along, or a break as he demonstrated. I always enjoyed playing with this technique because as he points out you can find it all over. I used to like practicing it from a rear choke defense. Obviously stopping the arm for going completely around first.
