PR BOBBIN KNOT: THE UNBREAKABLE FISHING KNOT (100% Knot)
Ойын-сауық
Have you tried this "unbreakable" fishing knot yet?
We couldn’t believe it when Captain Dylan Hubbard first told us that the PR Bobbin Knot has 100 percent knot strength… but so far it’s proven to be true.
The PR Bobbin Knot is the only fishing knot guaranteed to hold up 100 percent of the time (assuming you tie it correctly like Joe from Dogfish Tackle shows you in this video).
What does 100% knot strength mean?
It means that your fishing line - braid, fluorocarbon or monofilament - will break before the PR Bobbin Knot will (100% of the time).
This is the ultimate line-to-line connection.
See the full post on how to tie the PR Bobbin Knot here:
www.saltstrong.com/articles/p...
You need to make sure you have the following items to tie this knot. What you’ll need:
Bobbin - This is a small tool that loads the tag end of your mainline up onto the tool in order to make the wraps you need to tie the PR Bobbin Knot. The bobbin helps you keep line tension during the tying process.
Mainline - You need a large amount of mainline tag end to spool onto your bobbin for the knot.
Leader Line - You need a large spool of leader line to attach to the mainline for this knot.
Steps for the PR Bobbin Knot:
Step 1 - Thread your braided line onto the bobbin
Step 2 - Spool the bobbin with your braid line
Step 3 - Tighten the bobbin's drag down
Step 4 - Overlap your leader line and braid line
Step 5 - Make wraps with your braid tag end up the leader line
Step 6 - Wrap the leader mainline around your hand
Step 7 - Spin the bobbin around your lines in tight coils
Step 8 - Unwrap your hand from the leader
Step 9 - Pinch the overlap point
Step 10 - Loosen the bobbin drag
Step 11 - Make a half hitch
Step 12 - Make another half hitch
Step 13 - Make a Uni Loop
Step 14 - Unwrap the Uni coils
Step 15 - Pull the braid ends tight
Step 16 - Cut and burn the tag ends

This knot has its place: Heavy tackle, heavy drag, prolonged fights, and heavy leaders. I'd tie the PR knot on my heavy LBSF gear to join shock leader to braided main line, or my reef donkey boat rigs while watching TV, but when using medium tackle for bluefish or pompano, a fast double uni or improved Alberto will do.

Ive had recent issues with albrights. Learned the FG knot and stopped having issues. Then went back and found a good way to finish the albright so now i use the albright with the 3 hitch finish for lighter line (30lb braid to 15lb flouro) and FG with a risotto finish (the backwards uni he used on this knot) for the heavier stuff. Havent had a break since

Those knots won’t allow you to fish 30# braid like this will. With this knot you could fish 20# of drag on 30# braid and not get close to breaking the line. Can’t say that about those knots.

Killer knot 👍, always used the FG myself. Maybe time to upgrade. Tested a 20lb power pro to 30lb leader FG knot. In my garage hung an oak kitchen chair 2’ off the ground, had to force the chair to the floor before the mono broke but the FG held

When gearheads take over the sport and don't ever fish you end up with $300-500 inshore reels and rods. And $50 leader to line connections.
I like the FG wrap with 4-5 alternating squares and rizzuto finish for line to leader while I'm out fishing it is not tough to get it right fast when you've tied a few...really if you get a knot breaking you are likely not lubricating it enough or overtensioning it and damaging the mono/fluoro...I can't be keeping up with a bobbin on a boat or on the beach...:)
@MisterQueue67

My bobbin never leaves the house. I've never had the need to retie or change my top shot either. I don't get snags in 100 plus feet deep and use drop rigs.. chicken rigs and bank sinkers. Only time I break a line is when I get sharked
easier to weave myself a new sweater then tying this knot..
While Blackfishing yesterday I lost 4 rigs in the rocks. I couldn't image tying this in the wind, rain, and cold. I'll stick with the improved Alberto Knot or the Double Uni Knot
8:00 - This method of finishing the knot is called a Rizzuto Finish. The half hitches before it are optional tbh. The Rizzuto tightens towards the PR knot, so they cinch into each other.

Thank you for sharing
congratulations on the excellent knot also you have a video for knot to solid ring (for spinning tuna)
Dont knock this knot. If you have time to set up your rods before you go out its worth the effort. If you are out fishing an fg knot is fine.
I’ve learned an even better PR version from some slow pitch jigging pioneers from Japan. I love the FG but the PR beats it all the way. Take the extra time to do it before your trip and You will never have to retie on the boat again. In fact, it’s so strong I’ve never had a break off in so long I can’t remember. Only draw back is if you hook the ocean floor, you better pray you can jimmy your lure out. Unbreakable.
shout out to my local tackle store dogfish tackle been going there since it was on redington beach!
They are faster to tie than an fg knot when u tie them often. Hes giving a demonstration and explaining it step by step. I can whip a 3 " pr and finish it with a 5 turn uni reversed onto itself in under 60 sec. Nothing touches the pr knot except a hollowcore splice and even with that ill serve the end with a nail knot to a pr knot with some 80lb braid. i preach pr knots to everyone but the responces in the comment section are the typical response i get as well. Once u use a pr knot u will never use any other knot for braid to mono. The future is now lol
Awesome! Love the tutorials ya'll!
I bought a bobbin, sat down to use it and gave up after 10 minutes and tied an FG and went fishing. I'll have another crack at it using the method in this video, he starts off a little different than other tutorials wrapping by hand first. I'm curious when he melted the mono tag did he push the braid into it whilst it was still melted? I've always kept heat away from braid as I thought it weakened it
That looks like a tough knot!! Looks awesome as well. Maybe a bit much to do on a boat but something I'd consider doing at home. $50 for the tool though.

Hi I’m from South Africa. Thank you for your channel and information. Just like to know can this knot be used from mono to mono as well or can we only use the two figure 8s?
I tested this knot with zero failure before I used it to land 57 BF cows last year. I only use this for 100#+ line.
Do you ever wax this once its done to slide through the guides better or is that unnecessarily? Ive watched a video that tests GT knot making same claim & did a break test. Any input? Very clear instruction.
@craiglingard870

Yes wax works well or try a thin layer of UV knot sense.
Holy mother of all line to leader knots! You know it's a tough knot when you have to use a lighter to tie it...
Try wetting the base of the mono tag end when burning it so there very little chance to melt ur braid when same for the braid tag end
I thought you had to pull the lines tight after the first half hitch to cinch down the wraps.. even see the braid change colour. Before doing the finishing. And most wrap some hitches over the brsid alone to finish

I your description below your article about different knots said that NO knot is a hundred % and if some one tries to tell you otherwise that they haven't tested their knots properly
it's not meant to be used on boat - surely thats the situation in favor of FG, but when you preparing for fishing trip - I'll choose PR for sure!
what is the thinnest diameter of braid that can be used for this knot?
Alot of these fancy knots are more for off shore fishing, the Reverse Albright is fine for inshore fishing.Or just use a spro #10 swivel
I’m a shark fisherman and I use double uni to tie my leaders and they work fine
I'll stick with an Aussie Braid for offshore and Double Uni for inshore/freshwater. Thanks.
Will this knot work on light line? Like 6 lb mono to 20. Lb brade?
Liked the part when you put the braid thru the mono after using the lighter, I would say using a torch lighter to control where exactly you are burning even when the wind is blowing and avoid going under your shirt and burning your chest hahaha

How does this knot fare being reeled onto a baitcaster or spinning reel? Also, can this knot be tied with flouro and braid of much less strength, like #10 braid to #8 flouro? Thanks.

AKA...the most complicated and time consuming way to tie the FG knot. It's basically the same knot.
@LightYerPipe
5 жыл бұрын
@David Hendry Plus all the wastage left on the bobbin, plus the extra cost of said bobbin, plus the fact that all the waste line cost money. So all in all to use this knot it's going cost you more in time and money.
I would use this to tie on a topshot or backing, but not for leader
After few knots time needed for tying it's the same!
Can anyone please explain what the difference is in the quality of the knot between FG and PR ? Thanks in advance to the assistants
@Saltstrong
4 жыл бұрын
The PR knot did test out to be stronger, but the difference is very small to how much longer it takes to tie so we don't use it for the typical inshore fishing needs. It's more commonly used for offshore deep droppers where there's a lot of time and money devoted to catch a trophy.

fg knot same strengths from my experience used pr and fg for years
Ill stick to the fg knot with a rizzuto finish. 20 wraps with fg, lock it off with the rizzuto an done strong as never failed and goes through the guides smooth as. Takes less than 5 mins to tie
I remember when running clear mono Ande line tied with a standard 7 wrap "fisherman's knott" was ALL YOU EVER NEEDED to catch a fish from 6lbs to 600lbs. When did fishing get so damn complicated? Imagine trying to tie this on during a wide open BFT bite on a boat with swells and adrenaline? Braid ruined everything.

I've found no knot stronger than the seaweed knot.If you cast your braided line rig into seaweed dense water with strong rips (like remnant tides from a hurricane far far away) it will amaze you the knots you thought not possible by the time you manage to retrieve it (if you're that lucky). No other knot is stronger, not one.
How does this work on 4 lb test mono?
You serve a bow string the same way. One you get the hang of it the process is very easy.
That’s almost identical to a offshore hollow core braid splice serve with a half hitch and rizzuto finish.
I am curious, do you not have to tension the knot as with the FG?

The swinging bobbin creates the tension for the PR knot.

You just did an FG knot without locking wraps, but twice as long, with a Rizutto finish with burnt ends. There is nothing secret/trick about the finishing of the knot, unless you don't know what a Rizzuto finish is..

If you want more fishing time, this is the knot you tie. I mean you will never know when you'll fight the fish of a life-time, but with this knots you are always ready. I know how to tie a FG knot, but its only my back up knot. My thing about FG is you're going to ruin your hands tying the perfect FG, if your not getting cut its not the perfect FG. I also hate that way tightening the FG knot which weakens the leader/flouro (mirco-cracks) just to lock in the braid to leader. I just tie PR knots, my setup are heavy braid so my leader 20ish yards or just enough to re-tie by jigs/hooks after a fight for the trip. I caught a 145lb BFT with PR knot 65lbs to 50lbs flouro. I tied my friend 50lbs to 50lbs flouro, landed his 70lbs BFT. PR knot is for big game fishing, but I learned to just double up the braid for lighter setup otherwise I just use FG for lighter setup but again, I hate cutting my hands. I'm so lazy, I only use two half-hitch knots then 5 loop reverse uni-knot to lock it in, hasn't failed me yet....

I'm sorry guys I love your channel but you lost me at the 2-minute Mark. I just think this whole knot thing is getting a little crazy. Let's be realistic, if you look at most of the records for fish caught they were caught years ago, I'm talking about when it was still just straight mono all the way or maybe a swivel to a leader. I definitely think it's necessary to learn to tie a couple line to leader knots but it's getting a little overboard now. Of course what do I know to each their own...
