প্রায় দেড় যুগ পর সুরমা নদীর নাব্যতা ফেরাতে শুরু হচ্ছে খনন কাজ।এ পর্যায়ে নগরীর মধ্য দিয়ে বয়ে চলা নদীর ১৮ কিলোমিটার অংশ খনন হবে। তবে, বালু ও পলিবাহী সুরমার নাব্যতা ধরে রাখতে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী পরিকল্পনা ও নিয়মিত খননের ওপর জোর দেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা।
