As much as I like Big power? I think I will stick with MTX. Why? The one time I gave them a call, they answered the phone, and even said " just send in your amp in, we can fix it". THAT WAS IT. I was a customer for life. And they just look great. I mean sold construction etc. But the fact that you have a question, and it gets answered? Hats of to them! I love chinese gear, and when your use amps as tools, like for SPL? Great value, and great power at a price you can afford to buy spares? Easy to repair? Its a no brainer. Looks and performance for me go hand in hand. And I like knowing that if something does go wrong with a custom install? I can call the company for a repair. That really matters to me. Custom installs are a mess if you install them just for the space, so having a solid company behind the amp really makes a difference for me. I like American made / Built hardware. Glad I'm in the point in my life where I can get made in USA gear when the need arises. Its pricey. But I tend not to let go of old hardware. As each has a story. I'm bit sentimental with things I buy.

@@wal Some dummy math? 8000W over 1 ohm will recuire 90volts RMS (AC). That will need the amplifier to supply 90A RMS (AC) to the speaker wires. (90 x 90 = 8000) The same amp will probably use about 900 Amps on the power cable. (65% efficiency class D) (13.8 x 580 = 8000, but for 65% efficiency 580 / 0.7 = approx 900A So if we make a calculation to keep the same power loss in the speaker wire as in the power wire and assume that the power wire is about 5 times longer than the speaker wire. 900A is ten times as much as 90A. So, the speaker wire only needs to be a tenth as large in area for the same power loss. And to that we have to add that the speaker wires are most commonly shorter. In this case five times shorter which makes it only have to be a 1/2 of 1/10 which equals to 1/20..... So, if you, in this case, use 3 feet (appr 1meter) long speaker wire (back and forth = 6 feet (2 meter) of area 8 Gauge ( 8,4 mm2). And use 12 feet (4 meter) two parallell 000 Gauge (2 x 84mm2) wires from the positive battery terminal. There will be equal loss in the power wires as the speaker wires. So, the speaker wires is well worth considering to keep very short, just as well as putting extra batteries/caps close to the amp in my opinion. But the power wire must be adressed first, otherwise the output of the amp will be reduced regardless of the speaker wire area. I think, as you say, 4 Gauge speaker wire terminals would suite this amp better. Please excueeze my poor engloiise, and maybe poor math :) Always impressive to watch your tests!

Tiffany style or panel mount RCA's are more robust as far as pushing cables on and pulling them off. The other style is soldered to the pcb and over time the stress can crack the solder joints. Its not that big a deal, but the panel mounts have a small advantage.

You'd need another altinator and maybe another battery in your car to run most of these high powered mega amp. draw amplifiers.. Not a super big fan of class D amps.. If I had a high power set up in my car I'd have a dedicated LEFT and RIGHT channel with STEREO separation. Screw the MONO subwoofer setups.. SEPERATE the sides to get STEREO SOUND! I might not be as impressive for sub. shaking output but it'll sound a lot better if your listening to Rock & Roll!

I want to, at some point, upgrade to a more powerful sub with an amp dedicated to that. I don't know what power, or even size, I want to go up to, but I figure 100w RMS would be sufficient. What would you recommend as the best budget amplifier for me?

It is gain matching- think of the gain as a matching tool not a volume tool. If you are under the overlap less power over on overlap and you clip the amp. Clipping is when the audio wave gets clipped of making it square instead of being round and smooth. I.E. clipped square waves actually turn the voice coil in to a heater coil sticking it at the top or bottom of the stroke. If clipped long enough the coils glue will burn and then you have a slinky or in worst case a fire. It is more complicated than that. But as a simple example there you go.

You don't need 4 AWG speaker wires with this kind of power. 9500 watts RMS at 1 ohm is equal to 97 amps RMS. Given that the run from amp to subs is generally only a few feet, that is within the current capacity of 8 AWG copper. And given that an amplifier will basically never clamp more power than it can do on the Dyno, that's plenty of headroom
