Guys , you have to mount automobile wheels horizontally on both sides on the concrete supports . This way the boats can approach on full speed and if touch the supports the friction wouldn’t be so much to be able to stop the boat . Very good job by the captains, bravo .

It is not only power, it is also the shape of the bow which is important. The bow on the riverboats are designed to be sharp, cut through the water and lift the bow upwards. Just like the bow of a speedboat. With the round and straight down bow shape of the ships made for the great Canadian lakes, you would not even get close to the gate, no matter how much power you have, the increasing water pressure would win.

It is just the opposite. On the river you better have a round up bow than a V shape one. The round one is able to steer good, the V shape ones, as soon as it a little bit off the curent of the river is been turned arround.

Why not just build 600- 800 Foot Lock System like we have on the Mississippi River? In cases where there is lots of traffic, 1000 Foot Locks. Looks like there is only a 1.5-3.0 foot drop in the rivver, a "Lock Through would be fast.

Barcos estreitos são mais fáceis de passar.

Some one should anchor a boat with a powerful winch cable upstream from the dam gates. Then have a dockyard matey standing on the dam and when a boat is not strong enough , he hooks on really quick and then he charges the captain a few dollars to haul him through the hard part. You and I could go into business, what do you think?

After watching quite a few of these it really seems like the ones that have the most trouble are the ones that just steer at the wrong time over correct constantly and cut the throttle at the wrong time. A few are underpowered but it seems like much more are just terrible at being a captain lol.

That is what I thought. If a barge looses momentum they are dead in the water until they are spit out backwards. You go in at speed and never cut power until you are out the other side.

Interesting to note as the boats engine room came abreast of the camera you could hear the turbo spooling up. I’ve been watching these channels for a while now and it seams the larger boats are turbo boosted while smaller craft are not. It would make sense to boost all of these boats.

i think sometimes they use truck engines to power the ship, i was on the Mekong, between Laos and Thailand, they too used car engines for their long skinny boats! very creative 😀
