Mystical Elf is a reference to the Duelist Kingdom episode where Yugi was facing off against Kaiba's dark side and through some shenanigans was able to bring back Blue Eyes. The only part missing is an attack boost.

@@nkyfong there was a duel with Yugi and a fake Kaiba in the duelist kingdom arc. near the end of the duel when the fake summoned the 3rd blue eyes (Other two in the gy), Yugi use monster reborn to bring one of them back. And he had a mystical elf. Somehow mystical elf boosted Yugi's blue eyes atk winning the game.

The way I see it and what makes the most logical sense to me is that he thought duelist kingdom rules applied so he would be unfamiliar with how tributes/fusions operated in some way, but that might be giving him too much credit

The Giltia and Mystical Elf retrain has me the most excited. I've been constantly wishing for retrains of older and obscure monsters. And it finally feels like Konami is doing just that. The anime references in sone of their effects is pretty nice too.

Imagine a sisters retrain that treats itself like 3 copies of harpies. Then it can give a massive boost to Pet dragon AND be used for harpies phoenix formation. While we are at it, it could even be a level 7 to better synergize with channeler

I have no idea why Harpies never got a rank 7. Channeler can summon any monster from the deck, and specifically has an effect where she becomes level 7 when you control a dragon monster, so you would think that there's something specific that they're going for in the extra deck, but no. You just make a generic like Big Eye or Dracossack.

It also would of been cool if the mystical elf monster could special summon a normal monster with 800 more attack instead of just special summoning it.

They did the cards Justice with the Art. They look awesome. :D

You can summon Dragon Spirit of White from the GY with the new Mystical Elf as well. Negating an effect, and then banishing backrow. Sure, Spirit of White doesn't have 3k like regular Blue-Eyes, but I don't think that's a huge issue, as you can summon Blue-Eyes if it's appropriate as well. The only problem I see is that you have to end on a Normal Monster, which is pretty bad, but perhaps this one card will make up for it. Edit: A problem I've missed: the special summon is in the battle phase only, so it's not as flexible as I first thought.

Here’s a fun idea: Kaiser Glider with Lair of Darkness. Quick-effect tribute an opponent’s monster from the hand.

2021 is the 25th anniversary of the Yugioh manga. OG card support was expected. The original cards have been out since 1996 to 2000 in the manga and starting from 1999 in the Konami game. Giltia: Giltia is a normal monster in the manga. The manga didn't have Fusion cards. The fused monster stood on top (pre-battle city) or in front of the monster cards used as its material. It became a fusion monster in the anime and later the Konami card game. The 1st effect is referencing when Jonouchi forgot the Super Expert rules and summoned Giltia without sacrificing. Holy Elf: The artwork of Elf is from the Yami Yugi vs Ventriloquist of the Dead duel. Kaiser: Kaiba plays it in the manga.

Best anniversary product would have been full-colored reprint of the original manga volumes each bundled with promos of unreleased manga cards.

Mammoth graveyard needs an effect similar to the show.

I have never been so happy to see something have Dark Machine in it's text, only for it to require a normal summon, a discard, and must be level 6 (I know, it's for jinzo) for a search. Well at least I have another way of adding Blowback to hand besides Fusion Reserve and Orcust Cresendo. I guess that's cool too

The artwork is amazing on all 4 but I think my favorite is Gilta

We need a new Flame Swordsman whose name is treated as "Flame Swordsman."

The mystical elf has synergy with gamma - negate something with gamma and you get a driver to the field, which is a level 5 or higher normal monster. Bam, elf is live. Quite situational but the synergy is pretty cool.

Feels way too gimmicky, since you'd be playing a card that is functionally useless unless you also have another card in hand. You'd probably have to play it as a 3 of to see it at relevant times, but then you also increase the risk of bricking with it because you don't also have gamma. Assuming 3 gamma as well, your odds of seeing both in a starting hand at exactly one copy each (the optimal scenario) is 8.18%. In comparison, the odds of drawing 1-3 copies mystical elf retrain without any gamma are about 23.96%. Almost 3 times as likely to brick with it as to actually get the combo with no dead cards. Even if we consider possibilities where you get multiple elves, gammas, or both you'd still be getting the combo less than 10% of the time

Where I see potential is in decks that could play elf without gamma anyways (e.g. blue eyes, dark magicians, maybe sunavalon). Funny enough, this card could be quite cool in full fledged psyframe decks (though I never played those so no idea how good it would really be there). I just thought it was a nice little interaction.

The elf card you know the one I can't remember his name said in this video it's actually a reference to a duel between Yugi and kaiba's evil side that Yugi sent to the Shadow realm and the fact was that Yugi pulled some weird stuff and used mystical elf to power up blue eyes to win the duel

I play Red Eyes ( he’s my favorite monster of all time ) so that searcher will be a lot of fun in that deck

Hope this means Kairyu-Shin will get a retrain to go with it's spell cards

-Giltia will definitely help Destruction Sword/Red-Eyes decks. -I kinda figured the Mystical Elf retrain would be a spell or trap, something like "decrease the atk of an opponents monster x??? per spell (or spellcaster) in the gy"

the kaiser glider has some insane synergie with the hieratich seal though. you could convert elpy and pisty into seal (doest even have to go to the extra zone) and then use kaiser glitder to tribute it

Harpie and mystical elf look great! Love the art too!

Harpies pet dragons abilities are for wind monsters so maybe the card could see competitive play in a deck like lyrilusc tribrigade

These are the kind of retrains I'd like to see for the old normal monster heroes

I also looked it up but the harpies dragon retrain can also support Dragunity and Gusto decks as well since they also use a lot of wind winged beast cards now that probably not saying much but just pointing out it is kinda generic.

i feel like Kaiser Glider is really made relevant somewhat because it's a Quick Effect. this means you can do it using an opponent's monster during their turn using Lair, or use it during the battle phase to swing directly for an extra 2400 for game.

I dunno, that new Kaiser Dragon could be interesting in Hieratics. A level 6 Dragon that triggers that theme's gimmick as a quick effect, it might be useful as defense should your plays get stopped with a 0 ATK/DEF vanilla on the field

As a Lair of Darkness player Kaiser Glider is kinda nuts tributing as a QE on your opps turn is such a nice eff when you have lair up it is so useful to have that in your hand rather than relying solely on lilith to do your QE tribute disrupts

Kaiser Glider is a good combo with that field spell card that let you tribute opponent monsters. It is all about taken advantage of the (quick effect) special summon during any turn so its good for combo breaker.

I believe so, since it's a Quick Effect

The lightning rod effect can be played around if they have some quickplay spell or quick effect removal... but then they are potentially going -1 to get rid of it.

Kaiser Glider Golden Burst is a slightly better Hieratic Dragon of Su but slightly less searchable

I think the mystical elf retrained is a throwback to the episode when Makoba used mystical elf in the anime

Its a reference to when it apparently had an effect of transferring ATK to Blue Eyes when Yugi was dueling against that imposter. But they stupidly don't have the ATK boost anywhere on the retrain card here apparently.

I would perfer this than the anime for a few reasons. one I mean yes u do have to have a normal monster level 5 or higher on the field while they use an effect monster ability. even with this said, u can special summon her and negate the effect. this makes normal monsters really good. now to search her often would be good lol

I was wondering for those effects where you have to pick a random card from your deck and put it in your hand, do you have to show the card to your opponent so he can be sure that you actually picked a card that complies with the effect you just triggered? or there is a "trust system" where he must trust you picked a correct target for the effect?

Love the new mystical elf! I can already see my Megamorphed Blue Eyes destroying the opponent when they are forced to attack a 6K monster. And the one juicy thing about the Kaiser Glider is really the lv6 extra summon, I need more of those for my Dragulas deck.

The Kaiser Glider is a Level 6 Dragon which means it has great synergy with Hieratic Dragons, also it's a Quick Effect with Tributing as a cost, which means it's another card Lair of Darkness can exploit.

Uhg can’t decide if I’m more excited about the Mystical Elf or Harpies Pet Dragon, both two of my favorite classic cards.

I wish the Mystical Elf had an ATK boost effect, to make it more anime accurate. But I love everything else it does ^_^

All 4 of these cards are exciting. I like Giltia the best so far but the Pet Dragon is searchable by tempest through both its effects which is awesome. Also I wish the Kaiser Glider card was immune to battle destruction with equal attack monsters because that would make it way better.

Mystical Elf is gonna be something else in Pacifis, I’d imagine. Handtrap omni-negate that’s live when the field spell is - other efffect is a fun bonus

i remember in the good ol days in elementary school we aways though the golden kaiser is winged dragon of ra as a lil dragon :D

I feel like the mystic elf is better for dark magician than in blue-eyes generally I dont have the vanilla blue eyes on my field during my opponents turn where dark magician i usually do because of eternal soul it would be better If my opponent didn't have to control the card so i could have it to make my combos a little more protected going first but going second it's decent

I was now about to say I want that card for duel links but that will make harpies tier 0.

Do you think the Mystical Elf card could work with the Phantasm Spyral engine? Not the best use probably but think it could proc the instant win effect if the opponent fills the board with weaker monsters?

Cool that theres finaly a high level dragon harpie that can trigher the other harpies effects

Pet dragon is great in a simorgh deck and since he has an If effect, then he won't miss time if tributed, perfect combo

Which once am I most excited for? Giltia. The ability to summon it and get such a wide variety of monsters off it (including phantazmay for disruption) and a non-targetting banish is just good value for the cost of a normal summon. If I get a second choice though...that harpie's pet dragon is so good not just for harpies but for any wind winged beast (lyuralisc and/or tri-brigade anyone?)

The harpie dragon is pretty good with dragunity too imo.

i guess that kaiser glider card will see play if there will be a good deck that gains advantage from tributing their own monsters similar to how dino gains advantage from destroying their monsters

Of the four the Kaiser Glider retrain is most interesting on why was it picked. I see why the other 3 cards, but Kaiser Glider wasn't as Iconic as those 3. But if Heradics were to come back I could see the Kaiser Glider being used there.

Yet again, Swordstalker and Saggi the Dark Clown get passed over. Swordstalker has an actual effect in Duelist Kingdom and appeared in Millennium World under the name Duos with the same effect and Saggi retrain could turn "Dark Clown" into a support archetype for "Virus" traps. Maybe someday. Then we can finally get the (Duos + Curse of Dragon) fusion monster Duos Dragon made.

I have said for years that Pet dragon should have had a protection effect for Harpie lady, who are usually on the frail side. This is fantastic since it grants some protection and mill for Phalanx Pike, Feather rest etc. The fact that u dont need to waste resources is a god senx

I'm really happy to see Giltia support, but dang they went crazy with the Joey specificity. And it's surprising that it doesn't work with Gearfried or Gilti-Gearfried. That Mai Harpie's Pet Dragon card is going to be GREAT.

Yeah, that it can't search for Gearfreed is the only disappointing thing about Giltia.

I think that this Kaiser Glider can be used with Lair of Darkness to tribute one of the opponents monster.

Kaiser Glider - Golden Burst (DAMN!!!! My Hieratics gonna love that one....but it is still the worst from that new cards anyway. So getting my hands on 3 of them as soon as they release will be cheaper than usual ^^)

I was honestly thinking not too long ago that Harpies needed a new Pet Dragon. I was actually thinking more along the lines of a new Extra Deck monster, but hey, this one's not bad either.

The new pet dragon isn't as much of a brick when compared to the original.

Dude that Kaiser glider is just hieratic support. How did you not even think of that? It tributes the dragon, something hieratics like to do, and is level 6, which is perfect for that deck. It’s just an extender.

Mystical Elf is a decent tech for the Psy-Frame engine. Makes it much more generic. It can also kinda work in decks with a high Vanilla density, like Metalfoes or Noble Igknight. It's a shame we didn't get this card 5 years ago.

Will glider work with lair of darkness field card? Imagine able to use this card on your opponent's turn? Kaiju that can be used on both players turn.

I'm not sold on that Harpies pet dragon, the free spec is mostly irrelevant because of the summon though channeller to make the flare metal and a soft searchg went it dies other wise I can't see much use for it.
