This is a cover of "Nine Inch Nail's" Trent Reznor's song, and Trent respectfully, humbly, and simply told Johnny: "It's your's now.", a year before Johnny Cash passed away. RIP

Don't forget he was pissed at first that the record company let someone cover it. A friend convinced him to give it a listen, that's when he realized this was a landmark version.

Johnny Cash was a huge country star in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was always somewhat political, but he had a huge country following and then sort of faded away in the late 1970s. Rick Rubin admired him and produced two albums with him in the late 1990s. This song is from one of them. The woman in the video is his wife June who died a few months after the vid came out. Johnny died three months after she did. Johnny Cash is a music legend and an iconic performer. Hard to believe you have never heard of him. His struggle with drugs and alcoholism are highlighted in the movie Walk The Line starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Watch him play Folsom Prison Blues live at the actual prison. He did this album just before death with the help of Rick Ruben. This is proof I watch your videos. The needle refers to heroin but is applicable to any other addiction. Trent Reznor wrote the song. The Man in Black was allowed by Nine Inch Nails to cover. Trent knew once Cash wanted to do it the world would turn.

Johnny Cash was a huge star in the 60s and 70s and also had a TV show for a time. He also did some acting and starred in many shows during the 80s. His wife June Carter Cash came from a very popular Country singing family called the Carters. After Johnny and June married, the sang together and were very popular in the country music scene. Johnny was a complex man and lived a hard life in spite of his enormous success. The video of this song brings all that into focus.

I hear Reznor became reluctant to perform the song at all, saying that it was Cash's now. That was well-said, echoing Dolly and her song I will Always Love You, but I hope someone's told him to take quiet, respectful pride in writing such a fitting farewell to an absolutely iconic titan of radio-era music. That's as rare as drawing three to complete a royal flush for a pot bigger than you've ever seen, and the other guy's betting aggressively. He's now part of that monument to memory, well done.

5:30. His wife was in the video on the stairs. That is June Cash. What was surprising about this video is that Johnny Cash called this song his "Swan Song." He knew he was dying. The tragic part is that his wife June became ill QUICKLY and died before him by a few months! June died May 15th 2003 and Johnny died September 12th 2003. June's death came out of the blue which is heart-breaking.....
