Power vs Happiness - Yuval Noah Harari & Adam Grant on the ReThinking podcast

Description:
As we look at ourselves throughout history, humans have reached unimaginable levels of power, yet we are no happier than we were in the past, says historian Yuval Noah Harari. In a recent conversation with Adam Grant, Yuval emphasizes the importance of shifting our focus away from gaining power and onto being happier. I’m grateful we have such a wise person as Dr. Harari continually working towards the betterment of humanity and the rest of the sentient beings in our world. Much to my surprise, what I found for myself after decades of looking elsewhere, the key to my happiness has been my newfound belief in God and trying to put God’s interests above my own.

Exactly. Think about the most serious problems that humans create for themselves, e.g., wars, divorces, and general criminal activity.....it's all because we're unhappy, i.e., dissatisfied to the point we do stupid or selfish things, make poor decisions, etc. We have evolved in some important ways, but not in terms of self-management of our general emotional condition.

@@jlvandat69 Ever look up the meaning, legal meaning of Reset in a legal dictionary? It is “to harbor wanted fugitives” it also means to steal someone’s property and redistribute. Weird huh. Kind of like what’s starting to happen in the US harboring of criminals and taking of Americans property and wealth and redistributing it 30 million “new comers” most European nations. Like Nazi Germany in WW2. Sorry if I offended you, I see your flag.

@@Ashphinchtersayswhat We live in different realities, with no bridge possible. In my reality, no one has had the government take their belongings and give them to someone else, illegally. The much greater problem I see in America is extremely poor mental health amongst certain segments of the population that causes delusional, "victimhood" mentalities and makes these groups select false gods as leaders....con men, e.g. If America can get help for these people, we'll see much less victim behavior and they'll stop supporting "master victims" who constantly blame "the system" for all their self-inflicted legal problems.

Whenever possIble never take one option (power OR happiness) and just take them both. Power AND happiness. The same happiness that will grant us the power to obtain energy efficiently from the sun, the water, the wind, the magma, etc. without polluting the environment as we are doing now. The same happiness that will grant to us the power to recycle 100% the things we throw to the trashbin. Taking both power and happiness it will make you, us................HAPPIER. Please remember the first scenes of 2001 Space Odisy. You can't be serious when you say that living in the stone age while being constantly threatened by wild dangerous beasts who could eat us at any moment granted us the same well being that living in our modern current societies.

Meeting certain kinds of understanding, insights perhaps older than their discovery, wisdom or savoir-faire in nature... may demand experience travelling much farther, continued expansion of sources in sources; which at the same time also implies living and moving towards them. When mathematics is inexhaustible and imagination cannot have imaginable bound - then why should the stunning vastness of the galaxy see mere coincidence rather than a mysterious, but logical invitation?

Give Glory to God, the power to save us from our own selves. For God so loved the world he gave us his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him will not perish but have everlasting life. Yuval's a funny man who thinks his thoughts beyond the creator stand. Lord Jesus to reign upon this earth for a thousand years, that will bring us peace and felicity.

Have you told the people the legal meaning of Reset yet? Bet you haven’t. Look up reset in a legal dictionary. Resets just another name for final solution. You should be ashamed to even associate with the people you associate with.
