Power Trowel Review : New MBW 36" High Torque Trowel

#EverythingAboutConcrete #MikeDayConcrete
Finishing a garage floor with a new MBW 36" high torque power trowel.
This video will show you how to finish a concrete floor and I'll tell you what I think of MBW's power trowels.
MBW Inc sent me this power trowel to try so I could let you guys know how I liked it.
It has the Honda GX 270 motor which is 8Hp so it's got plenty of power.
The rpm's were excellent and the finishing ability, well, you'll have to watch the video for that.

    Hi Mike, As always, a great video! I have a Wacker Neuson power trowel which i got second hand and it has been a great unit for me. I've been considering getting a new one, and this looks like an awesome unit! I especially like the quick adjust for the blades and the faster speeds. What are you thoughts on the trowel that Wacker Neuson makes?

    Great machine very reliable and perfect for small slabs where a 48" is overkill. I've burnt many slabs in with that same machine and a good set of combo blades.

    Are you using a laser that shoots slope for your wet pads on that garage floor? Can you show a close up of your cuts with the soffcut ? If we cut that early we get alot of blow out on the edges of the cut. If we wait until it's hard enough to get nice clean cuts it takes forever to sawcut a slab

    Never run MBW had Allen engineering, Master Kraft ,Wacker, Whitman regular model high torque model and 3' and 4' think we had 5 at one time. Was told Bartell was the best from the guy I learned from. So far Bartell is the best but I have a Wacker with poly blades and led light's front and back that is the most comfortable to operate. But it isn't built none of them have the fit and quality especially heavy duty gearbox of the Bartell. From what I see it finishes nice probably has the 8 hp Honda the extra weight burns a nice floor.

    Usually for structural concrete, underwater concrete, and concrete that cannot be vibrated, just poured 36,000 yards of it underwater on a navy base, can’t say where because we get in trouble on social media about our work, but you usually would never use it on a slab on grade, it’s like piss water and you wouldn’t be able to screed it, when they slump,it they measure how much it spreads out on a piece of plywood, usually spec is in between 21-26” spread so it’s really loose.

    We used a multi quip and still own 3- 3 footers. I would say it does well. Obviously without running it you can't make a suggestion to buy or not. 2 questions for you. In our area finishers always make the last pass by hand. Is this something you guys do? Have you ever experienced alot of cracking in the floor when you have made alot of passes with the machine?

  • @MikeDayConcrete

    @MikeDayConcrete

    2 жыл бұрын

    When the temps get colder we'll do the last pass by hand on some floors but mostly burn them like this floor. We don't have any problems with cracking when we finish with the trowel like this.

    It dependes in few carasteristics: First: concrete mix; some plants don't send good cuality mix, as too small gravel, high desity sand, and not the correct psi cement requirments etc. #2 preparation, somo sites needs underlayment. Too dry base absorve the cement and make concrete loose his strenght. #3 some, but I said all needs runns "pans" before star combination. #4 some crews use excesive amoun of water. Water is necessary, but in the correct time and the correct amount. #4,5,6...cut be in the mix or in the proces, but more likly people with low knowledge in his trade.

    @@sergiotorres3573 thank you for the comment. The question was in reference to the vibrating or beating of the trowel on the the surface of the concrete. Obviously water is an issue and occasionally the mix is as well. Our supplier has been messing with quantities of fly aah and giving us, shall we say unexpected results. The question was actually in reference to what an old finisher told me. "The trowel shouldn't be ran more than 4 times on a floor or you will see alot of cracking". Wondering if anyone has had this experience?

    I always have 2 power trowels when I finish work like this. I use float blades first, then combos on the second machine, then I get rid of the trowel with combos. Then just blade it with the machine I floated with. Our concrete sucks and the combos fill nicer than floats and blades. If we had a solid machine at work, I would just want combos. Boss needs a new machine.
