Power Extension Load Test
Ғылым және технология
Skip to the actual test: 3:04
Today I made an (over)load test of the dodgy power extension from the last video. Most power strips may cause a fire when overloaded, but some are risky even when loaded within their rating.

No warning fire people 5.00 min
Everyone: "It's melting!" DiodeGoneWild: "That's nice"
Smoky the bear power supply in truth. Considering that the amount of copper in that cable was probably under 20c as scrap metal, it is amazing it actually held up under 40A for so long. Normally that kind of cable will blow open nearly instantly at around 10A.
The link doesn’t work so here it is again: 3:04
WARNING: Risk of electric shock, death, fire, serious injury & burns. Bloody hell, that's a lot of risks!
It stood up better than I expected.
This is my personal favorite video of DiodeGoneWild!😍😍

Correct, though primitive, it was surely designed that way :P. Even when it caught on fire, you cannot deny it had a romantic scenario, at least it didn't burn the house down... I hope.
I admire your persistence.
Thanks diodegonewild
So that's how electrical fires start
Awesome demo, thanks! Did you run this on DC or AC? I suppose in the latter case there would be a considerable PF effect as well? 😱
It went very crispy in the end its kind of scary what can happen but good job with the demonstration!

Good and important video. You should send this to a European safety control organisation or someting. I buy lots of Chineze things, some or very good, others are dangerous.

You are seriously messing with mains 👍 Can I ask you what do you use for load to draw this amount of current?
What I was waiting for!!
What kind of power supply do you have that can generate 50 amps?????? Great video. Cute pup.

Plenty of older linear supplies can do that, and server blade supplies can do 12V at 100A each, with 2 in any blade server chassis, though they are not too adjustable voltage or current wise.

toasty ..ahaha i was doing the dishes while talking the the ipad mini screen saying "oh my god" "that sucker is going to burn" ahahah.. my wife came to the kitchen saying what's up ?? my reaction DiodeGoneWild ..just went all wild on his cheap Chinese power extension.. btw funny the warning don't use beer as a fire extinguisher...even as a 40yr it nurd with 0.01 % of electrical experience..know that's not a good idea.. i mean i bought my first multi-meter last month hahah..ahh well we can't all be electrical geniuses like you and big Clive.. you should consider doing online classes.. true youtube.. love your accent.. greetings from The Netherlands..
Great video ! What do you use as a load for that much power/current ??

It looks to me like he is using a big ass DC constant current power supply and maybe just a shorted plug on the extension outlet.
I love your videos, you do a good job going through the theory and making the experiments fun. I really hope you are doing these in a well ventilated area however. The carcinogens in burning plastic are very abundant, even touching it with bare hands after is a really bad idea. It won't kill you now, but it will long term.
OK so my house has two types of currents 220v and 380v (because I'm European) and our 220v (which is for the house) has issues with the fuse box, as soon as you plug in a fridge or a computer to a outlet the fuse box turns every thing off, so we have to get it fixed, but like I said we have two currents and 2 fuse boxes completely separate from each other, (the 380v current is for our electric gate and wood furnace) the 380v has a working plug when the 220v turns off the 380v stays on because its separate, so my idea was to daisy chain power supplies from the basement (where the 380v fuse box and plug is) to upstairs to be able to charge our phones and dewalt batteries (the dewalt batteries we use for their torches) so my question is is it safe to daisychain powers extendors?
A teraz záhada, odkiaľ si bral 40A? Skrat previnutého sekundára MOT trafa a primár regulovaný autotrafom?
This made my day
Not smoke, fire alarm activating safety mechanism. Not flame, emergency escape lighting system. Good thing you disabled the meltable over current fuse which you mistook for solder or you couldn’t have shown us these safety features. I want one of these in my grandkids bedroom. For sure. Thanks for the demo of this super safe device.
Hi, what brand and model of machine do you use to generate such high current?
"Crazy amount of smoke" is not enough for DiodeGoneWild lol like with the salt, he pushes it to the maximum limit
Thanks, for sharing, that was great.
Sorry to disappoint you but most of houses breakers are designed to handle 15A continuously except for kitchen oven breaker and clothes driers. I don't think some will used extension cables to withdraw more than 15A in normal room in the house with a breaker destined to trigger at 15A load. It is just my critical thinking of the subject, however that doesn't mean that you can use any kind of extension cable with thin core in it.
Thank you. This is a scary video to show how these react.
when its dead yet you revive it and kill it again. this is 'amayzeeeng'! lols. loved your content. please stay safe but not for the crappy devices =)
Can you make a video about your old clock
ahoj super videa. Mam otazku kolko zariadeni mozem nabijat z jednej standardnej nabijacky? Mam taku USB rozdvojku s 4 portami. :) Dakujem

Do items really pull more current when pf is low, I don't see that. A led bulb with pf of .5 doesn't use 2 xs current?
@DiodeGoneWild

Yes, an LED lamp with a 0.5 power factor draws 2x the current compared to power factor 1 LED (given that the mains voltage and the LED power is still the same).

You are using welding inverter to get 50 amps without triping the breaker?
This is an interesting and educational video.

Please do video about your power supply and the load circuits on this video.
Crazy amount of smoooooke😁 nice video
What was making that whirring noise? also, Like the demonstration here.
And finally some fireeeee that's amazinnnngggg...
I love your channel
Dude! I love your accent! 🤣😂🤣 Awesome
What supply do you use that can put out 50 amps?
This was so awesome
The dog at 3:08 ... Is that the same dog that you show in a couple of your videos on your Danyk channel a few years back? I think I remember a dog like that chasing a yellow broom.
I have old, shitty, aluminium wiring in my apartment and I'm always worried about it, but your video gave me hope...
Hey, nice quality, will this be sold on ebay for parts or not working? Maybe it could be repaired ;-)
What device you are Powering what is that Eu grounded plug?
How did you get 50 amps on mains voltage?
So do you have any smoke alarms DGW?
For this reason a caravan extension lead should be fully unwound when in use to stop it overheating ............... you are after all running the whole caravan on a single extension lead
such a nice video thanks a ton
Inductive resistance truly is a often overlooked safety hazard.
funny experiment. i like it
100v is japan only while us is typically 115-125 normal but that is each line coming into the like we have L1 L2 and i think neutral while businesses have a 3 phase system A B C but i dont exactly know wiring for 3 phase

North America has 3*240V, but four to six taps. Three extreme taps create each 240V, and one to three middle taps create 2*120V from 240V. There's also 208V if you connect extreme to middle taps.
genial dany sigue así saludos amigo
Great video !!!
I dont know what is worse.. this cable or the 5V Hand warmer i build... It got to over 150C btw...
Nice, no clickbait
BTW What did you use to load it?
What did you plug into it
Question. Answer from anyone. What would be a dangerous amount of power extenders that are plugged in closely together? (Via power strip, etc)

Got fried in a previous experiment ?
My confidence in Chinese extension cords has actually gone up after this, it really took quite a lot of current to get this thing to fail short. 8 amps at the intended voltage of 220V (China's voltage) is 1760 VA, which, assuming they meant 800VA at 220V, is more than double the rating.
@TheSpotify95
2 жыл бұрын
Though it is better to use safer and more compliant extension cords, not cheap rubbish from China :).
Always fully unroll an extenser cord when you use it at its full rating Amps !
But Wouldn’t the circuit breaker trip

5:33 I think when the wire got desoldered(the solder holding wire to terminal melted) out of heat, it stopped everything.
im glad the dog didn't catch fire !!!
probably using a low voltage high amps power supply to simulate what would happen
8:00 Romantic fireplace with magic smoke.
Nice video
what is the wire gauge of it ?
DGW, please tell us things that the world never knew about Czeck. You know like Skoda car...etc. In short videos like 5-min or less. ( just an idea )
Well that's why they better add wall EU plug on it or something hard not a cable they could even make it small then
Can someone explain what the power factor means
It said 800w thinking on the Max voltage rated! You did it just the opossite
To be fair to the cable, was it rated for 100V or 240? If it was only rated for 240, then the test is a bit unfair.
Nice test. I was secretly hoping to see the equipment that is capable of drawing 50A though. :)
cool space heater :D
SPEAKER WIRE ?! wow.. WOW.. WOW!. creative
What did you load?
Niceee man, it is crazy
" It's melting, that's nice "
