Power drive inverter, pd120, test and FAILURE

Tldr: I have had two of these cheap inverters, thy both failed prematurely, the one in the video failed completely and no longer works within a few hours of the first batch of tests.

Can i charge this and use it unplugged?

you need a meter than does RMS values to get a proper voltage. That's why the voltages are so wildly off. Those meters are working , as intended. They will provide you the proper values if the inverter puts out a pure sine wave... but they're wildly off with modified sine waves. That inverter is likely providing the proper voltage of 120... its the measuring devices can't read it properly because its a modified sine wave.

besides that... it's really better to go the pure sine wave route when making a purchase, even if it does cost most. Some electronics run a little funky on the modified sine wave and motors will run a lot hotter because it's less efficient.

i have several "watt meters" that i thought was showing me rms. i just checked the instructions and it seems i was doing it right. the meter i was showing in the video also shows peak/minimum and energy over time. one of the meters can be seen @9:48, unless you are meaning something i dont yet understand which is possible. i thought i mentioned in the beginning of the video that this was a cheap modified sine wave inverter, maybe not. this powerdrive was a piece of junk. its in the trash now and i ordered a pure sine wave inverter, it did cost a lot more but i will be worth it. also, the measuring device definitely measured the correct readings before the inverter went bad, in fact in another video i had 3 of them going, one to show volts, one to show amps and one to show watts all at the same time so i didnt have to toggle the buttons. also, on the table is a 100 watt incandescent light bulb, it was super dim when the inverter started to output its 60 volts instead of 120 i have never had issues with watt meters and modified sine wave inverters.

I actually took mine apart today and found a major design flaw, the black case has vents that melt and fall on to the fan and cause the fan to fail over time. I broke those off today and the fan is slowly speeding up. If you buy this it's actually good but the fan flaw is its Achilles heel

I keep searching for videos of inverter reviews only to find improper experiments by reviewers. First of all you should always have your vehicle running to ensurer about 13.2 continuous amps by the alternator for correct and best output by the inverter. Second, You admit to overloading the 120w unit by pulling 140w for 2 hours. The unit will try to keep up but it is burning components inside. If you are thinking that it should not get damaged because of the surge rating of 240, surge rating is only for about 2.5 to 3 seconds when initially starting a 120w max product. Then you correctly explain how a sensitive electronic computer that requires pure sign wave will not work properly with a modified sign wave, and that it will try to “talk back to the source” But then insist on making it work. The unit was used with both incorrect input amperage and also overload amperage at the same time. It should fail. The unit functioned properly. It would by helpful if you did a follow up video with correct input and correct wattage electronics that don’t exceed the rated CONTINUOUS watts. Thanks for taking the time to make videos. I’m to busy but also need the proper reviews before I buy.
