Power Carving - Texturing Combinations With Large and Small Round Burrs

carvingonwood.com/textures-cre... With any type of carving the textures that we create help us tell the story of our carving.
Power carving texture combinations using large and small round burrs is one great way to create many different, yet similar, textures that will help you differentiate elements of your carving and tell the story of the carving.
These textures can be created using any round burrs, and with different sized burrs you will achieve different looks to your carvings.
If you use a high-speed engraver with very small burrs, as demonstrated in this video, you will get one look. If you use much larger burrs in a flex shaft machine you will very likely get a totally different look.
One of the funnest aspects I find in power carving is the ability to experiment and see what I can come up with. There is no reason to copy anyone else here. There are unlimited numbers of textures that can be created.
As the artist you have the ability to search out the textures that speak to you and what you are carving.

Thank you so much for this video I have seen a lot of textured wood art but none of them were as detailed as your video. Thanks for mention the types and size of the burrs you used.

Can't wait to get my Vortex so I can begin trying these techniques. I'll be purchasing your class series at that time. Have a great day.

You're using a 'rotating table' under the project, what is it called & where can it be purchased? As a beginner, have learned a lot from you in this series, thank you.

Hi Tim, nice tutorial! I have two questions-- are the #9 and #10 carbide rounds 2.50 and 2.70mm, respectively? Also, what brand of carbide rounds would you recommend for this? Thanks in advance.
