Power Carving A Fish - Firewood Trout

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I create a stylized brook trout carving from a piece of firewood and a river rock. It is finished using dyes, acrylic paint and polyurethane. I did most of the carving with a Dremel 3000 but can't help grabbing a knife and chisel. I happened to have an extra can of brush on polyurethane to paint the mask for the dye but it could have been done by working from a puddle sprayed from the can.
Thank you to all that helped me reach 1k subs! I would appreciate feedback, letting me know your likes and dislikes, so I can continue to improve my content.

    I enjoyed your video. I'm interested in powercarving a black crappie,(whole fish), and I believe I can use your technique, in carving the basic fish. I understand I'll have to carve the fins, and attach them, and paint it, but the initial part of carving it, I think I can do. I would appreciate your advice, while I am working through this process. Thanks, Tommy Schutz

  • @MCBWoodworks

    @MCBWoodworks

    4 жыл бұрын

    Tommy Schutz thank you. I think it works best to carve the tail and dorsal fin as part of the whole fish then attach the other fins. If it is being painted then you can use some putty at the attachment thank points to make a nice clean transition. Let me know if you have any questions along the way and good luck!

    LOOKS GREAT! I was wondering though, what is the hot liquid that you added the dye to? is it hot water? I follow riverbend woodworks and stumbled upon your video.

  • @MCBWoodworks

    Thank you! It was hot water. They are concentrated water based dyes. I have read that using hot water helps them penetrate the wood. I love riverbends work.

    Sandy, I use TransTint Green dye amzn.to/2vctaVV It is effected by how much you use, how long you dip it, what type of wood and what finish you put over it. If you use it I recommend a test run. Thank you! Cheers from Maine.

    It is a Trans Tint dye. The previous scene I am painting polyurethane on the section I don’t want dyed. It isn’t a perfect process but with a little sanding it works pretty well. I linked the dye in the description.
