Do you like tea? Do you have a cat? In my house, carrying a teapot results in me becoming a prime target for the cat. This teatray isn't going to dissuade him from attacking my legs, but it'll make it easier to not spill tea.

Hi I am glad to see that you know your place, usually doing what the cat wants. You think you have problems with your cat, mine is just a standard type but at 9 kg it makes your puss a small problem, when mine launches itself at me nothing is going to stop me dropping things. Although it causes lots of trouble I wouldn't have it any other way. They bring their own brand of happiness and also keep me company.

I half expected to see you carrying the dimensioned wood with your tea to keep loki at bay. Very glad you made the tray instead. It looks great, especially the texture, i really wanted to touch it! ha ha.

A wooden square/dimensioned mat to distract him might have worked better ;) I think thats the best part of the texture - you can't see it until you pickup the tray, then you want to flip it around to inspect everything!

There's a concept - wabi-sabi - which describes the beauty in imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete objects. This goes very well with my incompetence. I feel like that line is incredibly underrated. I also I think I may have a new life philosophy...

Today was another long day sanding. Set the playlist to Random Woodknight Mode and settled in for 5 more hours trying to destroy sandpaper in a scientific fashion. While I won't go back and comment spam the dozen or so videos I watched, I just wanted to say thanks for the entertainment Paul, a lot was learnt and much was enjoyed. Cheers!

  • @TheWoodKnight

Thanks! Its OSMOs "Woodwax" "intensive colour". It's meant to be a semi-transparent black after one coat, then "intensive" after the second coat, but it was *very* black straight away. Not that I'm complaining, it was what I was after. It also comes in a range of other colours that are very bright. Food safe. Expensive per tin, but gets great coverage. We'll be using it on some desks, hopefully not too far away in the future! On top of that, OSMOs PolyX satin (3032)

  • @TheWoodKnight

+Chandlers Kustom Creations Toth's style of texture on the underside is what came up on Google image search. My original plan was a "hammered finish" like what you'd find on some metal, but the die grinder burr I had just wasn't cooperating so I looked elsewhere for inspiration

The texture is much easier than it looks - a ball end mill or spiral downcut is your best bet - it just takes *forever*. The texture on the teatray was a bit slower going because it was curved, but took about 3 hours to do. Make sure you're caffeinated!

+Kira according to google, average manx weight is 3.5-5.8kg. And looking at sizing, they're about the same (slightly smaller) than average Bengal cat size. The thin pelt vs typical cat fur that is thicker can be deceptive
