Man kids are so lucky nowadays with KZread. Videos like this were hard to come by for someone like me back in the 80s. Coming from a small town and a family without much money, I only dreamed of getting all the new and upcoming skateboarding vidoes. Luckily I had a rich friend who's parents brought him some of the videos and I would watch them at his house. Thank you for uploading these.

Ha ha. Exactly the same for me. And the rich kids could afford the overpriced PP boards which in the UK were always 30% dearer than all the other brands. So I always thought the kids who rode PP where all wankers ha ha. I still liked Chin though as a video and Tommy Guerro was a nice regular guy. Couldn't give a sh1t about Tony and the rest of them. Santa Cruz all the way holmes.

Back in '89 I finally got my hands on a copy of a Bones Brigade VHS. I was so stoked that I ran home from school to watch it. My VCR ate the tape and the friend who lent it to me never spoke to me again.

Of the 100 memorable lines in this movie, I don’t know why, but I always crack up when they are looking at the milk carton and McGill is going “that’s him, that’s the guy”……..

I had fun shooting still of this at the PINK MOTEL, in LA and at WALLOS in Hawaii. Lance was funny AF at the PINK MOTEL. One of the memorable times of my life. Love these guys. Have enjoyed watching them grow old, and become the successful humans they are today.

I live in Canada. In ‘86 I was 13, got $50 for my bday, got a money order at the local post office in U.S. funds, mailed that off…when the VHS movie finally arrived was so excited.

Finally: I can do my METHOD air and ONE FOOT air and JUDO air and COMB YOUR hair workout again.

Jason Carter I used to do 'airs' with my board lay down on my bed when I was a kid too in the late eighties early nineties... Funny thing is that I didn't see this until a younger skater mate showed me around 2011! Must have been 'searching for animal chin' back then without realising it... 🤔

I miss being young. 10 years old watching this every day for months. trying to emulate them in the front yard! I know one thing though. I wish I would've bought all the decks my local athletic store had back in the day. I remember my parents buying me my first Caballero deck like it was yesterday. (33 years ago)

@emilioesquivel6883 On street I did kick flips, late flip or back foot flips, heel flips, handrails etc and I was a vert skater.

I really enjoy this, even if Stacy Peralta is embarrassed by it, I think it has heart.

I wish they would add to the animal chin mythos. It really deserves another film. maybe a throwback style one. it could be like all the original guys finally found him after all these years and they got old while looking

I'd like a meta-sequel where younger skaters are influenced by the film to go find the original spots & some new ones along the way, culminating at the permanent Chin ramp that was built.

I loved this, it makes me happy today just like it did in the 80's

@@hawkwind769 im 47 and suck at awesomeness but I tore myself to pieces trying but after 20 rotator cuffs blown out i struggle not being able to play! It hurts worse to be just watching when you can really rock it!

When skating was fun. Now, it’s about jumping down 50 stairs and flip tricks. Well, at least Andy Anderson keeps some of the 80s tricks alive.

Best SK8-flick in history of skateboarding. That's def my all time favorite video right here. Thanks for uploading, guys.

This goofy movie got me into skating. Thanks!!!!! I’m still searching 30 plus years later.

That nightmare scene was a great way to incorporate the bloopers and outtakes. Definitely going to remember that story trick for inspiration.

I was there man. P&P board and Indie trucks. It was a way of life. Simple. Then came P&P videos and then Gleaming the Cube. Interacial harmony and all sorts of great adolescent experiences all around sidewalk surfing. It was about finding that buddy's hidden skateboard ramp or that perfect curb to thrash. Differences didn't matter and everyone was accepted unilaterally. Life was good then and those experiences led to life now. That's the $h!t.

Love the lady walking at 12:56 .... she hears like 5 or 6 skateboards crashing up behind her and doesn't even look over her shoulder or move over.. she's hard core!😆😆😆🛹🛹🛹🛹👍👍👍

One of the best videos ever made. As a kid growing up on the east coast there was nothing more important than watching this.

I think I spotted him for a minute in the 80s but I found him in the 90s. Life has a way of making him vanish over and over. I've found him a few times over the decades since. Always looking, never giving up. Even when he's gone, you know he's out there waiting for you to start the journey again.

Haha, it's the first time in my life after more than 30 years I see this video without this VHS tape grain and stripes and crancy sound... being a kid with my first Ray Barbee deck, best time of my life

Watching this the first time in 37 years. It's crazy to cast my mind back to watching it in 1988. I think this video was the realization that I was never going to be a good skateboarder and that was ok.

This is the video that really pushed me to progress in the 80s. I got my first board in 85 and this pushed me to learn vert riding. We had a skate shop here that rented videos and this one was always at one of my friend's places. We would watch this then go out and skate all night after. Truly an iconic video right here.

Although growing up skating in the mid 90's my local skate shop pulled this out of the dusty attic and let me borrow a piece of skateboarding history. Such a classic amazing video! Woke up early on summer days watching this, eating cereal and then go skate all day.

2000s for me had a uncle that was a early 90s skater I was like 13 he gave me 2 joints and this vhs tape said have fun 😊 mind blown away

I like watching old skate videos to get me pumped to go skate more than todays videos where people are doing crazy stuff way out of my reach.

Famous,, Pink Motel, Sun Valley California, Been there a few good time's, even met and seen Tony Hawk, Stacey Peralta, Caballero, and Garrero, Those was the great awesome day's of true Sk8ting, not like there is of the new Sk8er 's out now. .

I used to have all of the dialog memorized and me and my crew would quote whole scenes to each other when we’d take skate breaks.

So rad. I remember skating a spot around this time called Townhouses by my house in Glendale Ca. It was basically concrete drainage for the hills. Out of nowhere Lance Mountain shows up and starts skating with us. He was obviously so fuggin good and super cool. Like almost all skate spots it was later destroyed but I’ll never forget that day.

After “ until the wheels fall off “ in 2022 I looked up all the old Bones videos …. I truly loved with all my heart when skating was a predominately Californian thing , it was so ubiquitous in s.d/Southern California….being a kid at that time was awesome , checking out a friends sweet new deck or being lucky enough to find a new killer shirt … Air Jordans … plus I loved my BIG10 relatives not knowing wtf a mctwist , Ollie or tracker truck was ……. the backyard ramp scene is so reminiscent of a ramp we would skate to get to in Claremont … Rad as F

Ran into Won-Ton 'Animal Style' Chin in San Mateo in the late 90's; he was really run down from pernicious anemia and a long bout w/ pneumonia and passed soon after. He was super negative about the filming experience and stated "Bones stole my Ho-Ho street invert from me' and complained that he had told Stacy on several occasions that he was in Vallejo the whole time. And that "the whole searching thing was a fake!"

This movie is a true classic. Now that I’m almost 50, watching this brings me right back to my childhood. My only criticism of this is the hack job they did to the car. That car was actually in really good shape and would now worth a few dollars restored.

Chin ramp was epic. Something about the mini half up on the top made it the greatest feature for me. Set the tone for a lot of indoor parks across the country to do as much as you could with limited space.

Just in case someone doesn't know... That ramp was destroyed after the movie was made but Hawk and co. got a replica built 30 years later and recreated some of the the combo shots etc... Check it out... Johnny Rad makes a cameo too!

First sk8 I had was this plastic banana board called the sidewalk surfer. I was like 8 or 9? Rode that thing into the ground. Put skating on hold for a few years until I saw Powell Peralta at the local one-man sports store. My current stick is this really simple street board, PP, no d'uh, that my wife bought me for an anniversary. Good to see the old videos still getting out there. Thanks for some awesome times.

It was the year 1988, I was 14 years old, some friends lent a vhs of one of the first skateboarding championships that happened here in Brazil, in Guaratingueta, "Skate Sport Emotion" was the name of the video, including Christian Hosoi visited that track when he was here in Brazil, I think the championship was in 85 or 86, I do not remember exactly, anyway, when we finished watching the video, had the fade out to the black screen and the pink noise that came in vhs, the staff talking in the room and here is a blue screen ... we stopped the conversation to see what happened, suddenly a cut on the blue screen and the skull of the bones appears, we were paralyzed until the video is over, without believing what we saw , the entire video " The Search of Animal Chin". It was very difficult to have access to this type of material at that time here in Brazil, I remember that I spent days copying this vhs to the staff. I'm sorry for writing so much, but the excitement, the nostalgia, the happiness I feel when I see this video are huge, I'm 45 years old today, I'm still skateboarding, but it looks like I'm 14 years old again, congratulations and thank you so much to the exceptional work Powell Peralta and everyone involved !!!! Skate or die !!!!

Yeah our local skate shop would stock a lot of PP back in the day, plus a few other big companies, that's when this stuff was mega expensive to own, had to copy them asap. I've stopped skating now because of injury fear and diff responsibilities but I can't stop watching retro and modern. I guess it never really leaves you.

I've been onewheeeling these past two years and man... Really brings back this vibe. Just cruising around and killing it. I highly recommend for any one born prior to 85

Inspirational intro Stacey. Any way you ride your board is best, is the truth for sure. Any age, any skill level, all skaters are cool. Also thanks for putting this one up on KZread, my VHS tape of it went the way of the dinosaurs! Also interesting to note that it was before the age of hyper aggressive dentistry for kids in the USA. Ah man, I'd forgotten about the Animal Chin rap. Good times! And that is still probably the greatest ramp ever at the end of the movie. I'd love to have a go on that beast, something for everyone! The still shots at the absolute apex of the hang time on that ramp are still to this day absolutely stunning. You can feel the exhilaration as they push themselves to the fullest on something so far beyond the bounds of what had previously been available to skate. Incredible video that more than stands the test of time. It was also my first glimpse of Rodney Mullen doing his unique freestyle stuff. Took me a while back then to find out who the kid pogoing at the party was! Easily one of,if not the, most influential skate videos ever. There's a lot to be proud of to all involved. Thanks guys, all of you!

My friend's 19 year old son is 2 months into recovery from a head injury that occurred while skate boarding w/o a helmet. Today he almost talked! He has no use of his right side but is learning to use his left hand. He still cannot swallow or toilet in the normal fashion. He is fortunate that his parents are willing to spend their retirement assets to fund his recovery. Otherwise he would not have access to the best medical care available and would be a vegetable until he died. Look for the Facebook blog for Aiden Schellings.

I have this on VHS - I bought it used from the Fairfax Skate Shop (was a rental). Pretty tattered box/sleeve. I wonder if it's collectible!!!

It is December 2020, Covid times, I am in Toronto, we got snow, my longboard is on the balcony and I am finally having the chance to see "The Search for Animal Chin"! And with amazing quality! I have to say, from cinematic point of view, as a cameraman and KZreadr, the movie is truly amazing. I love how all the shots were done, especially the action shots. Editing is amazing, the videos are in great sync with the music and often cool sound effects were added. Thanks for the upload guys! Wish it is 1987 again!

I had the good fortune of renting and watching this video while living in San Diego in the 80s. I also had the pleasure of skating at Del Mar. And, I agree that Tony’s Ollie at Del Mar was, indeed, sick.

I bought the Betamax video of 'The Search for Animal Chin' from Slam City Skates in West London in the 1987. Good Times...

Sf parts are still some of my favorite skating ever.

I still have this VHS I got when it came out, went thru my whole middle school (as bros lent out their skate vids like blockbuster then except for free lol) came back w/ Tony Hawk having a mustache & more drawn on him on the cover as a lot of guys thought Tony was a unproven cocky teen puto at the time lol.
