IntelliFinishing Complete Powder Coating System for Metal Fabrication Company
JR Custom Metal built a 24,000 sq. ft. facility to house their new IntelliFinishing complete powder coating system.
The friction-driven conveyor allows carriers to stop at any point in the system without affecting other processes.
The system offers an optional by-pass lane for parts requiring shot blast. Shot blast is a mechanical means of pretreatment. Recipes dictate the speed the carrier moves through the shot blast. Thinner parts require less contact time and move faster; while thick, dirty parts move slower.
The 4-stage process washer provides enhanced corrosion resistance plus offers two RO halo options with flash rust protection.
Employees can easily manage the conveyor, equipment, processes and recipes from three centrally located HMI terminals.
The unique conveyor design allows carriers to move at different speeds, including faster through non-value added areas.
After exiting the wash, carriers travel through the dry-off oven. The split-top ovens allow the conveyor and carriers to remain out of the oven reducing contamination. Both the dry-off and cure ovens are equipped with automated doors at the entrance and exit to save energy.
From the dry-off oven, parts move to powder coating. The powder booth is located in a clean room where temperature and humidity are controlled. The clean room was designed with room for the addition of a future, automatic spray booth with overspray reclaim. In order to ensure quality, carriers are stopped in the powder booth allowing operators additional time to coat parts thoroughly.
Upon exiting the clean room, parts enter the cure oven. This dual lane oven has a fast lane for quicker curing parts and a slow lane for parts requiring more time.
The ovens have 6-inch, insulated walls to eliminate unnecessary heat loss. The internal temperature of the cure oven is set to 400°F. The insulated walls keep the external surface safe to the touch, registering approximately 98°F. The carrier components suspended above the oven register 104°F.
Parts exit the cure oven and move through cool down. They will then be unloaded and packaged for shipping.
