    It becomes easy, embrace it. Some of the most fun times in my life were sight reading a piece in band and it sounding absolutely great. It makes you a better player

    My orchestra does OMEA state orchestra too and the sight reading is normally easy for me because they use easier pieces but it is pain for some of the orchestra

    When i get lost, my go-to is to get really close to the music and squint as if that makes it better. We were sightreading a rather difficult piece a few weeks ago (it's rather easy now. it's just repeating stuff but really fast) but both me and the other clarinet got so lost that we just stopped playing, looked at each other, and then the sheet music in pure and utter confusion

    I’m in orchestra, and I was doing a sight reading piece and the guy that was judging the sight reading made us each as individual instrument groups (violin, viola, chello, bass) say words like te and ta for each note (we did this in beginning orchestra and we are in orchestra 3) and he made us basically sing te ta and to. It may not sound weird, but if you were there you would understand

    As a pianist in College ensemble, this hit so hard. My latest piece had a run that the teacher, who is also a theory professor, would tell me “it’s just a scale made up of only like three different chords in a mixed order” and expect me to get it from sight reading. Then on day two he’d be like “that was all wrong. Sounded horrible… you have a CONCERT in two months! Don’t embarrass yourself” 😭

    I remember something similar to that in my band. My first marching season in 2019 was in the Brandon Bulldog Marching Band in Brandon MS, you can actually watch our show called Ignite as it was uploaded by a creator named MKelly601 (Although that was evaluation), when we got to finals, we actually scored dead last, but our director was 100% proud of us 😁

    As a trumpet player sight reading any note above the staff is pure anxiety at times because at least for me my embouchure needs to be exact otherwise a double f flat very quickly goes sharp

    I remember getting introduced to sight reading and my first task was a chorale piece right before a competition. God that entire period of my life was a struggle since initially we didn't even have the paper and had to do it by ear and try to separate the individual harmonies of the original piece.
