Then on day two he’d be like “that was all wrong. Sounded horrible… you have a CONCERT in two months! Don’t embarrass yourself” 😭

@@maxparrish4718 Woah! Which band are you with?
“It’s just scales” is so real 😭
I DO THIS ALL THE TIME AND THE DIRECTOR IS LITERALLY MINE STOPPING THE SONG JUST TO CALL OUT TRUMPETS 😂😂
I play clarinet and my band got a 1st division in sight reading this year 😆
as a fellow trumpet player. I feel this
The “It’s just scales” is so relatable my band director literally said that today💀
me not knowing how to read music at all: i like your funny words, magic man
I'm a percussionist. The only problem I had was today when all of our 7 pages got mixed up during sight reading, and oh boy was it a mess-
ITS.JUST.SCALES! - a sentence every band/orchestra/chorus students have heard
Accurate, I literally play trumpet and the amount of times we have been embarrassed like this is uncountable. Also, love the high note❤️
I miss being able to sight read during band ;-;
"its just scales" why is that so accurate
As a amateur bassoonist at my place in life (played for 2 years) this is a nightmare
Every single time I hear “It’s just scales”, a little part of me dies
As a pianist in College ensemble, this hit so hard. My latest piece had a run that the teacher, who is also a theory professor, would tell me “it’s just a scale made up of only like three different chords in a mixed order” and expect me to get it from sight reading. Then on day two he’d be like “that was all wrong. Sounded horrible… you have a CONCERT in two months! Don’t embarrass yourself” 😭
My band teachers were actually reasonable with that 😭 We went to contest and we had to sight read and we messed up some but overall our 4 directors were happy 😁

I remember something similar to that in my band. My first marching season in 2019 was in the Brandon Bulldog Marching Band in Brandon MS, you can actually watch our show called Ignite as it was uploaded by a creator named MKelly601 (Although that was evaluation), when we got to finals, we actually scored dead last, but our director was 100% proud of us 😁
I couldn’t sight read for my life
Other lives is just such a great piece, we played it with my band last year for the Norwegian nationals
This shit made my eye twitch, got me thinking about my time in concert and marching band
I don’t know why but I like hearing the original sound before our place so I know how it goes. I feel more confident.
As a percussionist hearing “it’s just scales” unlocks a deep empathy within me for those caught in its crosshairs
Your makeup skills are out of this world.
No director I’ve ever had has gotten mad during a sign reading session. Usually it’s really fun!
"Its just scales" me in an orchestra reading summer
As a trombone I can tell you we are just guessing when we sight read. Just random slide movements that kinda are the notes sometimes
As someone still learning french horn, I just experienced catharsis again.
I felt that "it's just scales" in my soul
This is absolutely stunning!
This is so accurate 😂
This is part of the reason I quit band, it wasn’t fun with teachers like that 😂
As a trumpet player sight reading any note above the staff is pure anxiety at times because at least for me my embouchure needs to be exact otherwise a double f flat very quickly goes sharp
I'll be in the middle of playing and my trumpet will forget to trumpet 💀
Love these videos
The “it’s not that hard it’s just scales” is the death of sight reading
Why does it sound so funky
“it’s just scales” pisses me off to NO END OMGGGG
As a trumpet player whom has played for 5 years now am happy I'm not alone
Keep doing what you're doing, it's working!
As my conductor told the orchestra, music is just scales and not scales. 😂
As someone who used to play piano, i feel this on a personal level... Playing by muacle memory was all i could do, to hell with aight reading.
This is so real. Like everything was just scales, according to the director 😭
Omg were literally sight reading and I can't even.
I remember getting introduced to sight reading and my first task was a chorale piece right before a competition. God that entire period of my life was a struggle since initially we didn't even have the paper and had to do it by ear and try to separate the individual harmonies of the original piece.
The relatability when bro said “it’s just scales” is crazy
I've seen my friends from band and orchestra be amazing at sight reading. Im in choir, and i can't sight read for my life
This is like a high school stress dream my heart was racing why would you do this to me 😭
As a pianist my hands naturally explode into a 1000 pieces when attempting to sight read.
I felt that😭😭. It was soooo hard
This is so real tho, bro I am terrified of the band director saying “it’s just scales.” 😭
How I feel in choir when my teacher whips out the sight reading generator at random:
I have no idea how you did it but this is absolutely amazing. How you capture the utter chaos and confusion. This is such a great animation. Absolutely AMAZING. Criminally underrated
The “it’s just scales” is too real, I hear that way too often
im loving being a band kid and reading these comments, its great and me being a trumpet player too
As a trumpet player, can confirm this happens more frequently with time
I did sight reading 2 times. The first time it was pretty easy, but the second time was a nightmare lol. 😂
Dear lord, now you’ve got me anxious for OMEA Large Group again 😭 (We made it to state!!!)
“It’s just scales” *simple words that have made my life hell* -a flute who sincerely wishes her band teacher would stop making her switch octaves in “just scale”’passages 😊😊😊
"its just scales" REALLLLLL
I'm a trumpet player and I can confirm that this happens
There’s always that one kid that sight reads at the concert but still plays better than all the freshmen combined
“It’s just scales” is something all trumpet players have heard
The it's just scales hits hard 💀😭
Dude, fr, I can’t sight read to save my life
I used to know how to read notes but I genuinely can’t remember now😭✋
I can watch this all day.
Other violins: Sight Read Me: Writes down each individual notes finger position
Sight reading other lives is basically a nightmare irl.
“It’s just scales” is a little too accurate 😭
bro when I’m playing xylophone and I’m trying to look up and down, it’s litterly all or nothing 😂
literally happened last week. "it's just scales" IT DOESNT HELP 😭😭
I fr feel this, I'm second chair trumpet and I seriously can't sight read. 😭
You can do that at the same time you look at it?! Bro, i have to play the thing over and over until i traumatize my brain with the song XDDD
Man this is so accurate but one of the few things my band teacher taught us were taco notes or The Accidental Carries Over aka TACO
“ it’s just scales 🙄” Yeah with like 15 accidentals what’s the point of the key signature if the notes don’t even match it most of the piece 😭
@2000s_Lizard

Or when you get a piece that you have key of G but all the Bb are naturals except like one random one. Like what’s the point 😭😭

@garfieldreal66 I know right? It’s just so random and there’s no other accidentals to help with it either. It’s just there out of nowhere
