    There are several benefits depending on circumstances. The main one on this type of route is that climbing protection might be spread across the rock face, and it helps reduce rope drag by reducing the rope zig zagging. If rapping back down it gives 60m if tying the ropes together vs 30m if on a single rope.

    Also less force on the gear and harder to zipper the whole pitch. And if some marginal pro pops you only have a ton of slack introduced onto one rope so will probably not fall as far
