POV: Driving the Rivian Electric Van At Night
Driving the Rivian electric delivery vehicle is one of the coolest experiences. I'll also show you what delivering at night is like and what it entails. No Amazon delivery driver likes to deliver at night but we gotta do what we gotta do. #rivian #amazondriver #electriccar

As a customer, I can confirm that after-dark deliveries can be stressful both ways simply due to darkness. I recently moved to a new house in a rural area, and one night around 8pm I saw a Penske truck park on the road near my 100' driveway. A guy in plain clothes started walking up the driveway, shining a flashlight everywhere. Honestly I was pretty apprehensive about the situation, since my FedEx tracking said it would be delivered the next day and I wasn't expecting any visitors. I met him near the door and my first words were "can I help you?" with an assertive tone. Turns out it was just the FedEx guy delivering a package. For some reason he didn't have a uniform and he told me they sometimes have Penske trucks fill in the fleet when needed. I'm sure that situation could have gone 100 different ways than if it were daytime.

Amazon Flex drivers can have that problem as well. I remember pulling up immediately after a woman pulled into her driveway at night and it's so awkward either way (getting out or staying in your vehicle). That's why I always advise Flex drivers to GET the Amazon vest! Get it on eBay if you have to -- Flex drivers still use their personal vehicles which makes it rough but in those scenarios I communication as early as possible, "Hello! Got an Amazon package for you!"
I've only been a driver for a week now and what I've learned is that it seems like being slow enough to not have to rescue and being fast enough to not need a rescue is the sweet spot to be in. Seems to be no reward for working super fast other than telling yourself you're getting paid extra hours if your DSP has guaranteed hours but we're all getting paid the same for the same amount of work.

@@Itsdjsigi I like the schedule of 4 days on, 3 days off. The job itself isn't complicated but it's very tedious/repetitive so I could see some people getting sick of it very easily. I also like being out on my own and the independence of the job (aside from big brother watching you at all times lol). I told myself the day I got hired that I'm not going to allow myself to worry about my numbers or trying to be the fastest driver or any of that shit.

yep the best is to find the sweet spot. Unless your paid by the day or they pay extra for rescues.
@keeng
Жыл бұрын
I've been on both sides and that's just a whack mentality. It's (for most DSPs) a 10-hour shift with hourly pay. 90% of drivers are done in less than 10 hours at least at my station. So we have a huge portion of drivers missing about 2 hours per day, which means they're getting up, getting ready for work, coming to work each day, and shorting themselves about a shift of pay per week (2 hours per day x 4 days per week). I leave home expecting a 10 hour day. Even if I do a rescue, I'm still back in under 10 hours. Just come to work, get paid, and go home man.
I worked in the sortation warehouse for 1yr and injured my back 😢 I used to scan 400-500 packages/hr for 10+hrs and my managers kept taking advantage of me and sending slower people home so I could improve their Warehouse Scan rate/ Efficiency. I wish you the best bro but take care of your body.

This sounds wonderful.
It would help immensely, especially for night deliveries, if every residence or business had their street number conspicuously posted and well lighted. Imagine if you had a medical emergency or someone was breaking into your house, wouldn't you want first responders to be able to find your house without wasting time searching for your street number?
This is becoming one of my favorite channels man keep it up love to see the grind and the new rivian van
I don't work in anything related to logistics or have any desire to do so. But I LOVE to watch your videos! Your personality is so up beat and awesome. Keep up the great work!
This style of vlogs just perfect and hella entertaining to watch
I have been delivering for Amazon for 2 months now. You were my go to videos in the beginning process when I did the application cause I wanted to know what I was getting myself into. You were a great help. Thanks!!! I’m in central North Carolina, so it’s really rural with all my routes. It’s fine during the day with all the back roads and dirt roads but man, it’s difficult here at night in the winter. There are no street light, people don’t have marked driveways or marked mailboxes. They also don’t keep the driveways clean so I don’t know if I’m in the yard or on the drive way. It’s really frustrating at night. Don’t get me wrong, I’m LOVING this job but I can’t wait till summer to get here so it’s still light out at my last delivery. PS. I get to pet a lot of pups and that makes my day.
To day it my DSP I had a small route of 165 stop and did a rescue of 17 stop for a total of 182 I delivered my first package at about 11:30 AM and I completed my 182 stop at 6:45 PM
I deliver for USPS and was scared something would happen after dark. Such as a customer not realizing that I’m delivering mail and draws a weapon on me.. or I can’t see a dog because it’s dark

I'd have to say that the EDV is the BEST in town delivery vehicle for a regular route by far. My only complaint, quit nerfing the stereo volume. The volume on my phone speakers is louder. I bring a BT speaker with me on those routes. Great content, fellow Amazon DA.

I live near the Rivian plant, not sure they will make it much longer so enjoy your EV........ Great video, glad I watched. We live near Rivian and never have seen an Amazon/Rivian delivery truck. Your attitude seems so much better than our drivers. And they BLAST their music, you can hear them come from a mile away, you know they are in the neighborhood.....:) And the beeping of the vans drives you nuts....(those vehicles seem to be going away here though) Unfortunately we are at the end of a route and get our packages between 7 and 9 pm most times, route originating 45 min away. But we appreciate Amazon since locally we can't get much of what we need anymore, it's crazy. The 2 day shipping has turned into 3 days, but I have recently had a couple next day deliveries...weird. So it's getting better now it seems and no complaints. The economy has shifted so much that I bet sales are way down. Good luck and be safe.

I love delivering near the night time, it's kind of cozy with lesser traffic, just need to make sure you always have a light xD cause spotting placards is a pain.
My DSP covers a vast majority of Omaha, Nebraska, I am often in the ghetto myself. I have only delivered at night in the winter because of the early sunsets. Usually due to my speed, I am done between 4 and 6 most days unless I get a crap route. Also in the ghetto, I never deliver to the back door even if they ask. Ghetto homes typically have untrained dogs, at least in my experience, and I have almost been attacked several times by dogs in the back yard.

As a ups driver I’ll will say night time deliveries suck especially if you don’t know the area luckily everyone pretty much has a 9am start time so no late night deliveries for the guys in brown only during peak and winter. Be careful in those hood areas idc what customers or managers say I’m not risking my safety going to back door in the dark not having a single clue what’s back there same for apts not walking around sketchy apartments looking for units you can come get them at the front door of the building. Even as a top scale ups driver making almost $40hr i don’t get paid enough for that.
I work for FedEx as a package handler and I’m going to try to become a driver next year but for Amazon as I see the quality of vehicles is way better. I think warehouse environment FedEx beats ups and Amazon but not for deliveries.
