The boot opening from inside the car does not require you to hold the boot opener for it to open. The reason for having to have to hold the boot opener down inside the car to close it is a safety feature due to the fact it assumes that no one is present near the boot whilst it is closing. The remote control operation of the boot is also the same procedure. To open you press the key boot button and hold until you hear the boot unlock and then release the remote boot button. To close the tailgate using the key buttons you have to hold the button down until the boot closes fully and you hear the audible lock sound. The closing procedure is the same for convenience window closing which necessitates the holding of the door unlocking and locking button to open and close your windows.

Nice POV video, Dan! Great choice with the M40i, too - it’s an awesome motor. I’ve owned multiple BMWs with the harman/kardon stereo and my advice to get the best quality sound (although somewhat inconvenient) is to connect your device directly to your car via a cable. In my experience, Bluetooth doesn’t transfer audio at a high enough bitrate for you to fully enjoy the HK stereo. I’m no audio engineer but I personally can hear a considerable difference comparing Bluetooth to a direct connection. Unless, you’re already doing that 🤔

I had high hopes for the "upgraded stereo" I've tried every setting. It ain't good. The boot/trunk or hatch(USA) is just hit or miss absolutely true. However the drive of the car is beyond fantastic for a SAV!! Honestly, the most fun I've had driving since I was a kid driving old muscle cars like OLD late model 70s and eighties muscle cars like camaros, novas and grand nationals!!! Yes that level of fun!! It will do burn outs and fish tails drifts into corners.

I've the pre facelift M40i which is just over two years old and we love it ; the Harmon Kardon sound system took some fiddling with but have to say it sounds pretty good, and I haven't tinkered around with it for at least a year - I could send you a pic of my settings if you wanted? The rear boot opening (I'll check mine tomorrow as I can't say if I have to keep my finger on the button or not. I think perhaps i do!, but I will check). Fuel con average around town 27mpg, on a motorway run 33/34mpg which for a 3litre engine is pretty good for a 2 ton car.. The service is a run in service for sure. Pleased to see you've sorted out the colour in this vid!

I prefer the Harman Kardon in my 5 series to the Bang and Olufsen in my Q5. Although HK system hasn’t got the subwoofer, it’s more refined. I find the B&O system to be quite unrefined.

Changed from M40i 2020 to 2022 iX3 as the M40i was costing £100 a week in juice. Same miles in my iX3 cast me £20 a week in electricity. Better spec in the iX3, far cheaper to run (no service for 2 years) for similar PCP deal. Yes it’s slower, but it delivers the power beautifully. No brainier for me. iX3 is really good…… if you can get extended test drive, you won’t want to give it back. The longer I am in it, the more I love it.

How did you get a similar PCP deal? I’ve got a 21 M40i and love it but am interested in something a little more sensible such as the IX3.

@@HKHants BMW were offering low rate PCP when I ordered in October last year. Not sure what offers are available now? iX3 is around £100 a month more than my old X3 but save about £350 a month on juice. Done 3k miles now and it’s cost me £140 in electricity.

The ride looks pretty choppy. Is that the M Sport adaptive suspension? Ever thought of getting an X5? I think the X5 would be a far more suitable family car as it would be much more comfortable for those types of roads.

Possibly the tyres, BMW put run flats on their cars and it ruins the ride quality on UK roads. I think it was mentioned that the tyres were getting changed?

Indeed, the Harmon Kardon stereo is rubbish compared to the Meridian system in the Range Rover sport. The ride in the RRS will also be much smoother and plush. You've been spoiled!
