Pouring Rain to Heavy Snow in 20 Minutes - Driving in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Part 2: • Driving in a Halifax S...
Here is a drive from downtown to the Lacewood area in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'm uploading this because the weather really changed really quickly. It went from pouring rain to heavy snowfall in less than 20 minutes. You see the transition from water, to sleet, to freezing rain, to flurries, and finally heavy snow.
Recorded on Friday, January 27, 2016.

This happens once in a while here in Toronto, it really catches people off guard. I once tried to make it to my garage to get my winter tires installed (they were stored there) and suddenly the temp dropped after some light rain that turned to icy roads. Luckily I made it but just barely but now I have them changed out mid October.

I live in Baltimore, MD, and historically we're right in the transition zone between rain and snow. Many times, you can drive just north of the city and go from rain to heavy snow in just a mile or two. At one time when I lived in northern Baltimore County, and worked in the southern part of the county, I couldn't make it in to work one day because I had well over a foot of snow on the ground, while there was still green grass on the ground at work! Of course, my coworkers didn't believe snow was the reason why I couldn't come to work!

Excellent driving. I remember a milder version happening of this in December 2017 in my part of Texas (and a rare snow day at that) and it went from rain to snow in a very short period of time. Drivers lost their ever loving marbles... suffice to say they definitely didn't have your experience for this scenario.

This happens often where I live in North Wales, UK in winter where when you're at the coast it usually rains or sleets with temperatures around 37-41 degrees, snow doesn't occur that often there, especially West Wales. You only need to head a few miles (even sometimes as little as 2-3 miles from the coast) inland to higher ground to witness substantial difference in precipitation, esp. since we're in close proximity to Snowdonia.

Summer street on a really crappy winter day I see the irony there Same as here in Virginia, the flip to snow is usually almost instant!! Wet slushy snow is the WORST! Slicker than deer guts on a doorknob! I guess people drive different when they know where they're going! Around here you see a Canadian Plate and they are either blindly following the GPS or hopelessly confused. and they have no idea how to "Think VDOT" Don't expect that, because it's not easy even for us and we live it!!

I used to drive in the rain for hours in the San Francisco Bay Area. I never played music but just thought about my life and for some reason I never felt lonely during these long drives. Sometimes I would park at the end of the Great Highway and stick my hand out the window and feel and listen to the rain. I suppose this was not normal but the noise was not real noise it was like comforting quiet. Long moments of peace in a loud, intrusive world. When I was young I would take my girlfriend out on a lake in the rain. She loved it and she always gave me a long but intense ........at the end before we got back in the car. Her blond hair would hang in long wet strands. She called me her rain guy.
