I have always wondered how Babbitt bearings were poured. I have always played with post WWII toys so my experience has been very limited.
Clay in a caulking gun? That sure as heck seems handier than mold dam. What product was it, if you don't mind?
Question. How do you center the shaft in the bearing block?
Be very very quite I'm pouring babbitts
Stop collets, and high temp caulk...... The modern equivalent to using "Babbitt Doe" for containing the pour. You going to scrape in the clearances? 😉

Excellent question. By the looks of the machine...this unit is not that critical. But that process is very interesting as well.
What is the name of the clay sealer you are using.
What make and model of paint did you use? It looks like it stood up to the heat well.
Babbet is lead?

Babbitt is a lead alloy. Easy to research on the web. It has different properties and varies according to the machine it is being used for.

Mostly tin with some lead. Contains also antimony and copper.
