During the 2010's, mobile apps and games experienced a huge boom in popularity- Subway Surfers, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run, Talking Angela, and yes- everyone's favorite amorphous blob, Pou! Today, let's take a trip back to this era to revisit Pou, one of the most popular apps of the decade, as well as one of the strangest.

IT HAPPENED TO ME TOO, WHILE MY DAD WAS IN THE COURT DOING HIS JOB AS A SAUL GOODMAN THE SOUNDS STARTED 😭💀💀💀
i showed pou to my poppa (grandfather) when it first came out. he has had a few strokes and is a bit slow so i figured it would be fun for him. he still has his pou on his phone to this day. he loves it and i can tell he really feels for it. he has never spent any of the in game currency because "i like pou the way he is, i don't feel the need to change him" so 10 years later, he's still just a brown lump being tended to by an 80 year old man every day. it is so sweet. i was literally in intermediate when i downloaded it on his phone, i'm 23 now 😭

There was a whole theory in my primary school about poop in Pou. Someone started a rumor that if you let the poop accumulate up to a certain point, without clicking on it to get coins, you would get a baby Pou alongside your regular Pou. So you'd have two Pous to take care of and that would apparently unlock a tone of features? I vividly remember a kid saying they could have their Pous fight and that on their phone they had two fully grown Pous in golden suits, but alas he couldnt take his smartphone to school...

my cousin and i used to play this game all the time as young kids, and they used to like to tell me of an urban legend where if you neglected pou for too long or kept him awake too long, you could come back to the game and there'd be a tombstone/empty screen (presumably pou having either moved on to greener pastures/ or "moved on"). that shit kept me awake at night.
Great video as always, just one observation: the hunger potion isn't for pure sadism, it's for grinding. Like, you fill pou with a bunch of food, then when it starts refusing to eat you give it the hunger potion, then repeat. From what I remember this isn't really an effective method of grinding, but if you wanna be a tryhard (on a pet game out of all things) yet also don't have patience for the minigames, then it's there.
It was the best feeling going to my grandmas house, eating apple pie and playing pou on her kindle. Grandma would often help me with the games and collect coins when i wasn't there because she grew to liking it. Sometimes my cousin would come and we would make a challenge of who could dress pou up the most ridiculous (he always won) I really miss those days, grandma also had a ps2 and played super bust a move 2 with me, she would always position the pointer and tell me when to shoot the bubble She was the coolest grandma on earth Miss you oma

I always pronounced it like "poo" when I was a kid. I thought it was some obscure Kindle Fire knockoff thing. Pou will always be a poop to me. Also I say Pou as Pou. :> Oh and that fuzzy head wear is comfy and cute as heck and the makeup is on point!

As a Lebanese, I believe the correct pronunciation is [pu] since in Lebanon, most of us speak French as a second or third language and in French "ou" is pronounced [u] as in "you" or "rubi" or "cool"... Further more, "Pou" in French translates to "Lice" in English, so I, and most poeple I know who played the game always thought the alien was a lice... P.S. Paul Salameh's other games are hilarious, thank u for mentioning them and talking about him, gr8 video :)

I remember when I was obsessed with this when my cousin had it on her phone. I’m kinda glad I didn’t get my first phone until way later because it made getting to play the 2010 nostalgia games more of an ✨experience✨
for some reason anytime izzzyzzz uploads something that i played with/knew as a kid i have to take a couple days to prepare myself to watch them.... the videos are never bad or make me cringe, its just the memories that do lol
I was freaking out for the first 10 minutes cause this game felt SO FAMILIAR but foreign at the same time?!? Once you mentioned my boo I was so calm. That’s what I played growing up lol
There’s something about Izzzyzz’s voice, esthetic, nostalgia content, and video production/editing that bring such a sense of calm and joy. Always a good day when a video drops. 😌
Your style, both in fashion and speech, is absolutely beautiful and I always look forward to your videos
I absolutely LOVED this game as a child. Pou still holds up to this day and a few months ago i redownloaded it. Its almost part of my daily routine to check on him. Great retrospective!
For some reason this game really scared me as a kid. I thought Pou's design was really creepy, and the design of his poops, and I especially freaked out at the noise that played when you lost a minigame. Weird times Edit: I played MyBoo a lot more lol. Because I actually liked the visuals

My friend had MyBoo on her phone because she didn't like the fact that pou looked like a poo.
Oh my goodness I LOVE Pou! My friend and I still mimic the ‘No!’ Pou says when he doesn’t want anymore food! This was such a treat :) awesome job as always!
I love watching your videos because it seems you’re a bit closer in age to my little sister; I have vague memories of media that I didn’t interact with (like Pou) but that my sister enjoyed. It’s nice to hear more about that era of games and toys.
First video I've seen by you, I subscribed and am looking forward to watching ur new videos aswell as probably creeping into ur old videos aswell. Really enjoy your style of video (:
Maybe you could look into the Petz games? I played one of the earliest versions so much as a kid, and this made me think about it. I looked up a video on YT now which was a Demo Video from 1998, and the pets are so interactive and complicated(in a great way) !? Young me didn't even know all of it. Personalities, learning tricks, interacting with other pets, and more. Would love to hear more about the games, what happened with them, and your thoughts on them 🤩🌸

the graphics of the petz games were so funny, they're literally made of circles. I really enjoyed the catz games I had as a kid.

Dogz 5 and Catz 5 are an integral part of my childhood. In fact I might just go download them right now for old timez sake.

Catz 5 had such a weird uncanny atmosphere to it. Such an oddly creepy game and that isn't even exclusive to the horror/haunted areas
The title and thumbnail of this absolutely TRANSPORTED my ass back to middle school. I was so diligent with taking care of my pou, actually got it to a pretty high level but.... sadly the day came where I deleted the app. My Pou lives on in my heart to this day
This video brought back so many memories! I was obsessed with this game on and off throughout my childhood! (Also when I was a teen I used to download pou just for the mini games. Since my phone was a cheap hand-me-down it had very little space and pou was a pretty small app that let me play loads of knockoff games for less space😅)
Not me downloading the app again after watching this video 💀 I have so many treasured memories of my friends and I playing that game during class breaks. I loved it so much. My goal was to purchase every single item you could buy, but I never managed to do that xD
I was 10 years old in 2012, but this is somehow my first time ever hearing of pou despite its immense popularity. I guess it just goes to show how much selling out extends your reach as a mobile game. Props to the creator for never losing the vision of what he wanted Pou to be.
I was super into Pou when it was popular. I had my very first smartphone when it launched and I hold it as a dear memory to this day. Also, it is really funny to hear that your family was also into Pou because it became an inside joke in mine as well. To this day my dad sometimes imitates the high pitched "no". Guess Pou really was family friendly :D (Also I pronounce it like... "Poo" because I am german I didn't really know the English meaning behind at that age)

This really brings back memories. In my home country, Finland, the 2010s were all about mobile gaming! :D That's because games like Clash of Clans, Hill Climb Racing and Angry Birds were all Finnish mobile games and everyone liked the recognition of our country
Great video Izzy. Me and my little guy really enjoyed this one.
Damn...I'm so old. I never heard of this game ever. Listening to Izzy is like having an alien trying to explain its homeworld's culture to me through a bad auto translator. I kinda understand what's happening, but I'm mostly very confused and have no frame of reference for anything. Still, I keep coming over to learn more and more. Another fun video! Thanks Izzy!

I was, I think, just a little too old for this at the time. I remember one of my younger cousins or a son of a family friend talking about it but never had any connection to it in my school lmao... So bizarre.

Just think. Theres now an entirely new generation that Izzy probably feels is alien to her in the same way her generation is alien to you. WIld.
I remember playing Pou in high school, just after it came out, it's so nostalgic 😭 I was way too introverted, and spent the breaks caring for Pou and beating my highscores in the minigames, before I actually got friends and forgot about him. Sorry, Pou.
I have really good memories from the time my friends and I played Pou. I wish I could come back to a couple of those moments.
I love that video essays like this exist.
I remember finding my elementary school phone couple years ago whilst visiting my family and mostly all of the texts between me and my buddies were us updating what level our Pous are.... I'd give anything to get to live those precious moments again
It's so wild being just a few years older because the things they talk about on this channel were apparently hugely popular but I've never heard of half of them

@Payne lol that's what I mean. I'm getting close to thirty so I've never heard of all these kids apps that were popular when I was getting out of highschool
Omg Pou!! I used to spend hours playing this game. It was relaxing to me. Moments away from the chaos...thanks for making a video about it!
This video made me rememeber a lot of mobile games that i played when i was small. I think a video about old google play/app store games would be so cool.
I remember having Pou on both of my parents Ipads because I didn't want to have to share custody with my sister for the one, idk why it hooked me so much - this little trangular creatcher, but i loved him, the soccer game was one of my faves
My mom, sister, and I used to play Pou all the time! We would crack up at the "no!" And the noise the notifications would make. I'll have to bring this up next time mom and I get together, I'm sure she will be delighted
KZread has bee recommending me this sm I HAVE to watch it
Love your videos
I would love if you talked about the history of Gaia Online! I was obsessed with it and it has gone through some fun eras, including their matchmaking thing.
I swear every video you post unlocks another piece of my childhood that I had completely forgotten about. I love it so much. Watching your videos always makes me feel so nostalgic
This unlocked a memory from when I was younger and played my boo none Stop !
I like your videos! love your outfits you always look really beautiful!
