Pottery Basics: Spiral Wedging
Spiral Wedging is the wedging technique preferred by most potters because it is the most efficient means of breaking up thixotropy, removing air, and mixing. Another really great reason to learn spiral wedging is you always end up with a cone shape, the perfect shape for the potters wheel. Spiral wedging is a little tricky to learn, so check out this video for an up close look from two different camera angles at this essential wedging technique.

Best demo I have seen, I can actually say I understand intellectually regarding the process of spiral wedging. Many clips on KZread covers this technique but again this is the most explanatory I have come across. Thanks you / A😊

Not sure if you got a reply,but what I have which works well for me is a plank covered on both sides with heavy canvas. I use one side for white clay and the other for terracotta, brown and black clays. Every now and then I hose it down and leave it outside in the sun to dry off. Works very well. I secure the board to my wedging table with clamps to stop it slipping around.
I'm new and learning - what is the surface you are using to wedge on? Is that purchased or handmade?
