    I doubt that potters who had to make so many pots would spend their days bent over like that. Surely they would have either squatted or sat or raised the wheel.

    Most sit, and someone else turned the wheel for them , then they moved up to a wheel that they could stand up and kick it theirself. My grandfather turn pottery (I come from a long line of pottery makers ) .
