Pothos In Aquarium | 7 MONTH UPDATE

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey Aquamigos! In this video I show the growth and progress of the pothos that I added to my aquariums 7 months ago. I talk about the benefits of having pothos in a fish tank as well as my personal experience of propagating pothos and adding it to my 10 gal, 15 gal, and 20 gallon aquariums, and how it affected my nitrates and over all water quality. Let me know what you think!

Been away for a bit, but I'm home from the hospital & back to following. Great video! My Golden Pothos is going into my community tank... Not right away but it's on my list. Not only are Pothos good for your aquarium water but they are a great houseplant too. They are on the top ten list of houseplants best at removing toxins from the air. Our carpets, cleaners and a load of other stuff are polluting our indoor air quality with formaldehydes and a bunch of other nasties. It's a win win addition to your tank. Pick one up the next time you see them on sale. Awesome video Tobias! I am an AQUAMIGO.

@@TobiasHolenstein gues you will know in the beginning next season, althow the bacteria take a while to come back to... would be a great experiment! I read somewhere that there are anaerobe bacteria they eat nitrate to, unfortunetly there is not a lot of research on it so its hard to say if is a real thing

@@vertigoone-one-722 Yes! I've been watching this guy on youtube named Kevin Novak and he makes videos on these anoxic filters and basically he says that anaerobe bacteria will live in low oxygen environments and it will get rid of nitrates. I've been thinking of giving it a try one of these days and see if it works

I grew what ended up being a 30 foot Pothos vine, what started out as a two leaf cutting and placed it in my Aquarium filter. I just heard what you said about the filter. I put ALL of mine in the filter and they grow tremendously.

Very beautiful aquariums and good information, really enjoyable. I have a question though, i recently divided 2 pothos pots from lothes and added them to 3 aquariums. Some of the individual peices were long enough to drape out of the tank the way most people do, but some of peices were smaller and not only the roots but all the leaves are submerged as well, some are inbetween. Is it okay to FLOAT some of the smaller ones, or will they rot?

Thank you! As for your plants, I'm not really sure. I have heard of some people growing pothos completely submerged in their aquariums, which I have personally never tried. But it makes me think that your plants shouldn't rot

Hard to believe it's been 7 months. Nice growth. Maybe try some other houseplants. Roots can rot too, not just leaves. The roots actually are good for the fish as they provide hiding places for them.

@@TobiasHolenstein Spider plants would take root quite well and all but you would just have to prevent their blade-like leaves from flopping into the water where they'd begin to rot. If you can find them, a Sweet Potatoe Vine does really well in aquariums. There's a Russian fellow that uses them in his fish tanks. He does a fascinating video on his 5 year study on guppy societies. Totally enthralling stuff. Here's the link - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGGlmqlpicmzlag.html

40PPM isn't that bad for nitrates. I think your problem is just more load than the filter will process well. Your algae tells me it's bio load. I would add another filter like a sponge. or a larger hob with more bio type media or both.
