Professor - thank you 🙏🏼 for creating the space that has launched this amazing community. l no longer watch mass media television/programming- I watch your videos because in addition to entertaining - they educate and more importantly inspire. You channel is the healthiest place I spend my time - other than my gym. Having discovered your channel I have sought out more videos on the geology on the region where I live. This is wholesome, positive and time-worthy stuff. In the past four years (covid + and perhaps before) the constant negativity and division that has plagued so much of our society has been oppressive . What Nick didn't realize is that about half the people hiking around were various levels of zentnerds looking to see a coulie up close on a fine spring day.

Nick, enjoying the humanity in ourselves with others is what we feel as the real benefits of socializing with others without a dog eat dog attitude. I must say a thank you for saying what you said at the end of this video. The goodness in you shows. You often mention the uniqueness of Bretz, however, there is a similar special quality in you that comes through besides your eagerness to share what you know and that passion you have when you do so. We can see the sincerity through your voice and facial expressions. So, again, thank you!

I'm planning to make it to at least _one_ of the lectures. Half the fun is the lecture itself, the other half is meeting and greeting Zentnerds who up to that point were a YT Chat handle, and now I can put a face to the name. I attended last year and it was worth the travel time and $ spent.

Sometimes we see the impact of our craft and sometimes we don’t. I’m glad you did. It’s a great moment for them and you❤ Thanks for the trail recommendation. My son (2024 fall CWU new student) and I made it as far as Vantage. I’ll be hiking that trail soon enough! I’m trying to wrap up all the trails in Canyon first. Thanks for all you do 🙏🏼

I have watched many of your videos and many of your lectures and I have also ever since the 1980s when I found upper goose Lake and went cliff diving with friends of mine from Moses Lake. I have been absolutely fascinated with the formation of this incredible area and you have answered so many questions for me and I just wanted to tell you thank you from the bottom of my heart, much love from all of us here in Kennewick Washington Washington state on the mighty Columbia River. Our arms are forever wrapped around you brother.

It's sweet that you're so humble that you might suggest that we will want you to 'shut up' so that we can 'enjoy the place'.. We watch because we want to hear you, because you're knowledgeable and kind, in ways that most people are not. You could talk about weaving, weather, or some other thing that starts with w, and I bet that most of us would enjoy it just as much. Please do not change a thing, but every time you're self-deprecating, know that I and others love you and all the work you're doing.

Thank you Nick. You've brought a lot of people together through their love of our Channeled Scabland Geology. A love I didn't even know I had until I started watching your videos. I've seen all of your Geology 101 videos, and most of your On The Rocks and Back Yard videos. Not to mention your large group presentations in an auditorium. I've spent several days last summer travelling from Liberty Lake to the scablands taking pictures. I plan on doing it again this summer. Again, thank you for educating us through you videos.

I was there 45 years ago as a boy scout for opening day of fishing season. On the trail across the talus slope there are large round boulders. The boulders are flaking off these razor sharp slices. It's easy to cut yourself with them. But if you throw one into the lake from the talus slope edge down, it will bounce back out of the water. Boy scout activities. I also recall hiking around the coulees there in the afternoon. It's a great place.

Hey Nick! My wife and I had to get out and enjoy the sunshine last Saturday too! We did Rattlesnake Ledge, and boy was it busy! Amazing views! We plan to get out to Eastern Washington later in the Spring and Summer, and we will add Potholes Coulee to our list of hikes!

Thanks.. everyday I am reminded of our responsibility to acknowledge ourselves as part of the human family. We do not travel alone on this journey. When the paths cross, the bond is made, and from that love is our call. thanks again and now back to the darn floods!

Our family was camping at Corral Lake there in the late 60s. We went to sleep ten feet from the water. In the morning the shore was about 40 feet away, and the lake had dropped almost 20 feet total depth. A sinkhole in the lake had opened overnight.

Wonderful scenery and colours .. like Idaho and Utah (Shawn's stomping ground), it would have fascinated the 19th century French painters such as Monet. My brain says that trip would once have been an easy hike for me; unfortunately my body is no longer up to it so thanks, Nick, for still allowing me to get out in the wild while enjoying the comfort of my armchair.

Thanks, Nick for a different view of the Ancient Lakes Coulee. This is such a beautiful area that's often overlooked. My husband and I took the lower Ancient Lakes trailhead and went past Dusty Lake down to the Columbia, then North up through Potholes Coulee past Babcock Bench 2 weeks ago on March 16th (the day before you posted this video). There are SO many trails through here that you could go on a different one every day for several weeks and not hit the same loop trail twice. On a side note, anyone parking at the Dusty Lakes Trailhead will need a Discover Pass to park their car there for the duration of the hike/trip.

As someone who lives in a county with 864,000 people this looks and sounds like heaven.

FYI: Early spring is the perfect season to go camp and explore Potholes Coulee/Ancient Lakes, which is a magical place to a Floodie :-). The chill keeps the rattlesnakes and ticks at bay ... and spring ephemerals are blooming in E WA. It's easiest to car camp at Quincy lakes. Thank you for the fresh Potholes Coulee video, Nick!
