Posthumanism

Posthumanism is the theoretical position almost no one in traditional circles is talking about, but it is the most potent current perspective in literary theory. It is an amalgam of a variety of approaches, but has a different character than them. If postmodern literary theories are anti-humanist, posthumanism goes a step further by seeing the category of the human as something that needs to eradicated for the sake of the planet.

This is so important. Personally, not sure I would call this a product of the Enlightenment, but the capture of Universities by a philosophy that considers certain areas solved and not open for debate is a current deep problem. Bret Weinstein has been talking about this. I’m sure Dr. Weinstein and Dr. Masson would not agree, but I’ll bet a gentlemanly and productive discussion could be had.

We would not agree, but I suspect it would be a good conversation

@@LitProf Dr. Weinstein definitely believes the theory of evolution is correct. But, he also knows that there are gaps and flaws and he does not believe the discussion is closed like Dawkins. This is why I have a hard time understanding the issue as Enlightenment problem. Closing debate is unenlightened. I believe our once enlightened institutions have been captured by authoritarian ideologies and in this regard Bret and yourself may have more in common than one thinks. I don’t think Weinstein is in favor of this post human stuff and sees it as dangerous. My opinion, I could be wrong.

Dear Dr. Scott, do I understand from your argument in which you have referred to posthumsnism as a 'cult' that you support anthropocentrism ? Thank you. I enjoyed your lecture.

8:49 I thought queer theory was against heteronormativity. It seems to have nothing to say about homonormativity because it doesn't imagine becoming hegemonic itself.

It is against oppression, but only heterosexuals can oppress according to their thinking. It is identity group thinking. Nothing individuals within the groups do can change this rigid schema.

QT is moving to opposing homonormativity as gay/lesbian relies on male female binary. Observe the "trans" flag with the wedge that is always moving to disrupt any binary. Pan sexual non binary would be more on "point" for QT , as irrational as it is.
