aww an aussie!...i searched this because our red tri 4 month old american shepherd ran out the door without his leash and right into the road and he got hit...thank god he didnt have any internal bleeding or serious head truama but he did fracture his femur so university of ga vet hospital was the only place open on a sunday and im glad i got him there as fast as i did!...as soon as it happend my fiance scooped him up and i was already in my car ready to go!..it took me 20 min to get there from outscirts of athens and i was amazed cause he was knocked out cold for atleast 5 min i dont know if he died and came back to but i started rubbing his face and talking to him and he woke up he picked his head up the entire time i was driving to vet!...but surgury is this morning they waited 2 days before making sure he is ready for surgury and they said he is alert and is eating so im so releived!....but im worried about the care when he gets home cause he loves to play and jump with the kids and he wont be able to do that!..they said he will need to be in his crate for atleast 4 weeks...im ready to help him tho! he is my baby boy and i will do anything for him!...hopefully they will inform us in what to do!

My dog ( 7 year old lab/ border collie mix) just had a splenectomy, it was 8lbs and the size of a volley ball... he just had his annual and bloodwork done 6 weeks ago totally normal. Then he randomly stopped eating.. he ate chicken and rice on day 2 no problem, day 3 we tried wet dog food mixed in, wouldnt touch it. on day 4 he peed blood (we had an appointment scheduled next day if he still wouldnt eat) took him to urgent vet, and they did ultrasound to find it.... its bizarre because It was so symmetrical, both me and vets thought he was just fat.. anyway they took out the huge huge mass. His incession is from his penis to his rib cage, 14 staples, they told us we could visit him the next day (i thought we would go to him not them make him walk to us less than 24 hours after) they kept him a 2nd night, and most of day 3. Waiting for his red blood cell count to go up, it didnt, they started him on an additonal antibiotic, told us we could bring him home and scheduled follow up to check blood again day 5. He got in the car himself before i could stop him, getting him out was a 30 minute ordeal, and my house has 3 steps at every enterance. No cone, no surgery shirt, no instructions to clean would or put any kind of antimicrobial spray or topical cream, and they said its normal for him to lick his incession?! Seems insane to me!!!

Sarah she was already on painkillers, took her 2 days to finally sleep for a bit, she was exhausted. Wanted to find out if there was anything else, other than the meds to help her, and maybe it could help others too. Turns out we just needed to wait out the first three days, give a lot if emotional support, feed her by hand and give her water through a syringe so she wouldn’t go even deeper into depression, and after a while she started putting in the effort by herself. We needed to take her back to the vet for IV medication about 5 days in though. At one point she was so much in pain she vomited the pain killers, so he had to give it to her through IV. Dead giveaway your pup is in too much pain: peeing themselves, constantly anxious and uncomfortable, and when it’s too unbearable, vomiting and hiding in weird places. First two can be fixed by time, pain killers, and emotional support, the other two, trip back to the vet. Ps: no one told us this, not even our previous vet, if your female dog is older than 7, get their ovaries removed. If they have false pregnancies (belly grows, and lactation, without actually being pregnant), more than once, also remove her ovaries. Otherwise she would end up with uterine and ovarian cancer, just like my pup. And it’s more painful for them the older they get.

@@niketalemoth6674 like a human’s wound. I’d lay her on her back, my sister would help me hold her so she wouldn’t turn over and get bacteria on her wound. I’d go over it with a gauze and betadine, then clean up with normal saline solution. Always from center of the wound outwards. And gently. Then cover it back up with a fresh bigass surgery bandaid thing. I think it’s called cosmopore or something. And cuddles afterwards

It is immoral to neuter and spay animals. Imagine yourself in that position would you want your own reproductive organs painfully removed at a very young age? The answer is no you would not. Then don’t do it to animals. It is torture. It is unjust. It is cruel. It is evil. It is sadism. Our society has some serious problems with the way we treat animals.

I never spayed my dog. But because of that she got a terrible case of pyometra and almost died. She's recovering from surgery now at 15 years old. I thought it was silly to spay dogs too until this happened. Now I understand.
