POST MORTEM: John Carpenter - Part 2

Ойын-сауық

Director John Carpenter talks about making his breakthrough film HALLOWEEN, working with stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence and P.J. Soles, his unsuccessful efforts to cast Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee as Dr. Loomis, scoring the movie, its release to bad reviews and blockbuster success, and making his next film ELVIS with Kurt Russell.

It's fascinating that John's movies were panned when they were released. Yet here we are today and almost every single one of his films has been remade or is currently right now in the process of being remade as I type this comment.

It's a shame how censorship has ruined this classic film, I tried enjoying "Halloween" on cable & the sex scenes are gone, The iconic head tilt after he sticks the dude to the wall & scenes are generally cut shorter. Censorship really is the underlying problem ruining film

First off there's no other Dr. Loomis than Donald Pleasence I mean every single Halloween fan know that already, but this is only an idea I thought of while I was watching the 2010 remake of "Piranha" on DVD recently, I thought Christopher Lloyd would've also been a really wonderful candidate for the role even though he isn't British.

I do find John Carpenter very bitter I seen an interview with him once and he said that horror films copied Halloween he also said Clive Barker and Stephen King both ripped off Halloween ? How did hellraiser rip-off Halloween it was nothing like it and both Stephen King and Clive Barker have said themselves that they never copied John Carpenter's work. I think John Carpenter thinks that there should be only one horror movie and that's his movie Halloween.

Mick Garris Interviews don't get me wrong I do like John Carpenter as a director and yes I'm sure he is a nice guy but with him saying that of a horror films ripped off Halloween is wrong becouse they didn't Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street films wasn't ripoffs at all there was there to scare people and films that followed like Hellraiser Series and The Shining and IT and so on and so for none of them films ripped off Halloween.

He comes off as standoff-ish at times, especially at convention panels, but once he eases into it he mellows out and is quite pleasant. I think with Carpenter the backlash from fans and critics on The Thing, and Escape from LA really broke his spirit and killed his ambition. Especially after Escape from LA, ever since then he’s become more jaded.

007 Beck well Friday the 13th was a total rip off. Quote from the Friday 13th documentary The writer: ‘Sean S Cunningham said, listen Halloween is making a lot of money so let’s rip it off’ So yeah Friday was a total rip off just with elements changed. Freddy was a very unique idea indeed with the dreams so while he is in essence a ‘Micheal Myers type’ the dream angle made it fresh. But then we could say Halloween ripped of Psycho to a degree?. The lone killer stalking women near by, or heck even alien is like Halloween just with an alien instead of a man, and set on a spaceship instead of a street in uncle sams neighbourhood?. In essence these movies are all the same really just the elements, locations and designs change. But what’s wrong with that?
