It is utterly disgraceful that so many people did not vote. I had to literally force so many young people to vote and right up to the last day literally screaming at them for not registering. They can sit on their phones for unnecessary things for hours and yet cannot take a few minutes to register. The law about voting needs to change. It should become a necessity. How many people decided to take a long weekend away because it was a public holiday. Companies should ensure registration and proof of voting to permit a day off. There was a person whom on voting day I said to him that he could get a donut and coffee if he voted and he said that he will go just so that he could qualify for that coffee and donut. Why are the people so latent? It seems the noise is not loud enough.

The problem with us in South Africa is that most people have become obsessed with their own little nests. In this nest, every member is selfish and entitled. So, outside of the little nest, nobody is actually of interest. So, the members of a nest put their heads down and don't REALLY see the other members of other nests - they are not important. What is important to these people in their little, insignificant nests, is the perfect nails, make-up and hair, the type of car the family is driving, the best whiskey they can afford, the i-Phone, etc. Most of these nest dwellers have no idea and/or care about the others who do not have nests. They have no real idea what is going on in the schools and universities their children are going to. Just like a bird, they only care about that very good steak, the very expensive golf entry fee they can afford and they do not give a thought about the less fortunate outside and how their attitudes and actions affect others. I can go on, but I am sure you understand what I am trying to say. If these nestlings understood what is going on in South Africa, they would have understood why it's very important to vote and not bring out a fear vote, i.e. vote for the DA to keep out the ANC or seriously diminish their votes. We need to really unselfishly get involved in our communities.
