Troy Watty it made that at the wheels, so really it’s making probably closer to 300-320 at the flywheel, and with the turbo the power comes on stronger than an n/a 4 cyl would. with the extra rpms it can cycle it creates more work ( power under the curve) across the broader range, allowing it to produce power similar to an I6 or v8, all while staying lightweight, reliable, and easy to maintain. Not just about peak dyno numbers.

that’s what happens when you put later gear in hilux safari just old truck push rod diesel motor put turbo on and you have old truck giving later gear run for it’s money i have had lots of hilux’s and v8 cruiser’s but them dam old safari’s were always on my tail somewhere

Why is it so good in mud? Just cos of the lighter weight? It blows the other trucks away and I can’t figure out why

You obviously love testing and optimizing things. I think the engine is pretty well optimized by now, the limiting factor is probably grip. Have you tried testing different tyre widths and pressures and patterns etc? Would be cool if there would be some semi-scientific way to compare forward traction through mud or something like that. What if you had a shallow mud put and held the vehicle back and was able to measure the force or something like that? I'm thinking you have so much power that just finding 3-5% more grip would be massive.

In Europe, it's called Nissan Patrol. I was wondering what Safari is until I saw it.

We have both here, but mostly safari as majority are Japanese imports. they were also rebranded as a ford maverick in some places

Heres a video of that 'TEALZ' safari when it first had the turbo installed and the wick turned up. Pretty full on diesel pump in that thing, put down 183kw to the wheels from memory on 30psi with a standard unopened N/A engine with 320,000kms kzread.info/dash/bejne/laaH0qWbes3glNI.html
