    Greetings from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil! Nice video as usual, it brought me great memories of my 1st visit to Portugal. My wife, a sister-in-law, her husband and me spent the Christmas of 2016 and 2016-2017 New Year in Lisbon. We did a rail trip from the astonishing Lisbon Gare do Oriente to Évora in a CP Intercidades (1st class) in early January 2017. Three days after we have returned to Lisbon again in a 1st class Intercidades and at the Gare do Oriente we have waited our Intercidades (again in 1st class) heading to Porto. Nice trip! Good photos and filming. A lot of chat with people on board (including the conductor!), bought beers and snacks at the train's bar. We have booked all our seats yet in Brazil several weeks in advance and only had to validate them at Gare do Oriente before going to Évora. All rides were good and for sure travelling by train is much more comfortable and funny than squeezed like sardines in an aircraft. Portugal is a lovely country! In September 2019 my wife, my daughter and me went to Lisbon once more time and we did other train rides close to Lisbon, including a visit to Sintra (via Rossio Station, very beautiful). Thank you for sharing your excellent video! All the best and stay safe!

    I was in Portugal last week visiting my brother who lives in the Lisbon area. I did the intercidades route from Oriente to Evora whilst there - second class in the other style carriage to the corail one - this was a three car train with one first class and bar coach and two second class ones - hauled by the same type of loco in the video - the 5600. A really comfortable journey and air conditioning working in perfect order. I visited the rail museum as shown at the start of video in Entroncamento last year - a fantastic museum and the staff were really welcoming. Great videos - I enjoy rail travel in continental Europe - a love loco hauled trains especially and of course - high speed.

    Really feeling my age with everyone referring to these Corail coaches as 'old' and 'old school' 😮 For my money, a first class Corail seat, whether on SNCF or CP, is unbeatable comfort, right up there with classic German IC trains of the 80s and 90s.

    Another great rail trip report from Portugal! A beautiful country with beautiful cities and impressively great railways this country offers. Besides the Portuguese tarts and its historical times as a famous maritime empire as we mostly know, this country still has so many wonders to see 😍 Significantly, the loco-hauled trains which are much extinct nowadays; replaced by EMUs for most intercity services in Malaysia which for me as the part of my childhood 😞 Thank Goodness. that most European countries are still using it even on normal intercity services as I'm a fan of passenger trains, especially loco-hauled trains which is the original form of a train before EMUs were invented. I really love to see all of your rail trip reports once you upload 😊Keep up the Great Work and Stay safe! Greetings from Malaysia

    you managed to record an oddity in this trip: A fast train getting to Oriente on the fast lines. For practical reasons, the fast trains to Oriente on the North line run on the slow lines (the two lines nearest to the river) and local trains run on the fast lines, which are landside. This enables better punctuality and, literally, saves lives!

  • @MrMatavelhas

    @@Mainyehc Honestly I doubt... Santa Apolónia is here to stay, Sintra is much better accessed from the fast lines and the Suburbans on the landside limit the amount of unauthorized shortcutting on the North Line between Sacavem and Alverca, which is gobsmacking (when shortcutting you had to cross the fast lines to access the suburban platforms and that cost the lives of many...)

  • @WhyFi59

    @WhyFi59

    2 жыл бұрын

    Is there a practical difference between the lines? Both seem to have platforms at every station and their curve profile seems similar enough that they would enable the same speeds. And you say they save lives; was there a major accident I'm not aware of?

  • @WhyFi59

    @WhyFi59

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Mainyehc I'm wondering how exactly they will fit three more lines in Oriente, but to me it seems more likely that they are meant to serve the Fertagus trains which will likely extend their service from Roma-Areeiro to Oriente when the rest of the Cintura line is quadrupled (which was in the original plans for that contract).

I believe many 1900s were used by CP Carga (cargo services), but I’m not sure if they were ceded to Medway or Takargo after CP dropped that division. CP definitely has some still in their livery, and you in fact passed two of those at 7:13 and 7:16. They literally look like 2600s, minus the pantographs. ;)

    Hi, Apart from the Douro valley train (which in the summer runs a special steam loco service, you DEFINITELY should try!!), my favourite line in Portugal is the scenic Beira-Baixa line, that runs from Lisbon over Entroncamento trough Castelo Branco and Covilhã to Guarda. It has very nice landscapes with wide open horizons... (Takes ~4 1/2 hours. One from Lisbon 8:15 gives you time to lunch in Guarda and return (dep. 14:07) the same day). Ah - also try the metro in Lisbon and the Cascais-line seafront train - stunning sunsets! Visit Sintra, also reachable by ('normal' commuter train). Cheers.

    Once CP finally gets their remodeled Arco coaches, bought from Renfe, in service in a few months, you should come here and do a review on those. They are going to be pulled by Alsthom’s “nez-cassé” CP-2600 series locos as regional services while our order of Stadler FLIRT 160s doesn’t arrive, upon which they will be used on IC services and likely be pulled by these 5600s (which also explains their livery decoration, somewhat mimicking its cabin shapes). There’s already a finished train set being tested around for EM compliance, and the rest are currently being worked on at the same place where CP recovered those stunning Schindler coaches, the Guifões maintenance workshop, near Porto. There was another big one at Entroncamento, and yet another in Campolide, Lisbon, but they clearly weren’t enough to keep the entire system running properly. We can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as the combined output of those three seems to be more than appropriate. Heh, and I see you tested out the rotary soap grinder. That thing is fun to operate and the soap itself smells oddly great, lemon-y IIRC.

    Well im gonna be honest, i dint know our intercity trains outside of the "alfa pendular" could constantly run services at 200km/h. Unfortnely information about portuguese railways its not taht easy to found on the internet 😅

    I like these videos, but They concentrate on the train ride only. For me, station and landscape are also important. There are more inclusive videos by others.

    CP really need to speed up facilities for the disabled. They appear to be way behind the rest of Europe and North America.

    They are, but unfortunatelly older trains in Portugal were not made for the disabled... That theme is actually not very old in the country!

    Yes, but as the trains are being replaced, accessibility does improve vastly 👍🏻
